In the related sediment slurry transportation projects such as river channel cleaning, dredging projects, reclamation projects, sand pumping projects, land reclamation projects, port expansion projects, and navigation channel dredging projects, continuous work through suction dredging equipment is essential for transporting sediment to designated locations via pipelines.
The transportation of sediment through pipelines varies in distance according to project requirements. As long as the outlet of the sediment discharge equipment is connected to the pipeline, it can continuously discharge sediment. The drawback lies in the selection of the pipeline, as it determines the continuity of operations, especially in harsh environments where the requirements for pipelines are stricter.
Currently, dredging sediment transportation pipelines include metal spiral welded pipes, metal seamless pipes, cast iron pipes, nylon pipes, PVC pipes, and plastic pipes.
Iron pipes — In recent years, the dredging industry has commonly used butt-welded iron pipes or spiral welded pipes. The disadvantage is that the pipe walls are thin, leading to severe rust and aging in pipes on land after about three years, and even more so in water. The combined effects of pressure, wind, waves, and water corrosion cause significant damage, necessitating frequent repairs. Nowadays, considering cost factors, some large-scale equipment and pump ships still use large-diameter metal pipelines. The advantage of cast iron pipes is that they have thick walls and a long service life; however, they are heavy and inconvenient for installation and handling.
PVC pipes — Generally used for building drainage, they are rarely used in dredging sand transportation projects. The disadvantages are that they are not resistant to bending pressure or cold, cannot be used underwater, and are too rigid to bend. They are mainly used for lower pressure and smaller diameter pipelines.
Nylon pipes — Slightly outperform PVC pipes, as their strength is improved; however, they have poor flexibility and poor resistance to wind and waves. Their major weakness remains their poor impact resistance; they can break if subjected to heavy weight and can only be used for short distances and short durations on land.
Plastic pipes — One type is ordinary plastic pipes, generally made of polyethylene; the other type is high-molecular high-strength polyethylene pipes, which are suitable for the dredging and sediment transportation industry. Their specific performance is as follows:
1. Lightweight, only one-eighth the weight of steel pipes of the same specification, making installation and transportation convenient, saving time and labor costs on-site.
2. High buoyancy, can be paired with plastic circular floats, resulting in lower overall costs for long-term use.
3. High strength, good flexibility, and elasticity; they can bend in water and self-adjust in uneven terrain areas within 30 degrees without needing to repair or pave the road. Pipes can be directly connected without being affected by wind and waves in water.
4. High wear resistance, 4-8 times that of steel pipes.
5. Easy connection; both ends of the pipe are equipped with movable flanges, and the inner lining of the pipe mouth is reinforced with steel rings, ensuring that the pipe mouth will not deform over long-term use. The pipe ends can be directly connected using bolts and movable flanges.
6. The inner wall of the pipeline is smooth, with a minimal friction coefficient, resulting in a transportation efficiency that is 15-30% higher than that of steel pipes.
7. UV-resistant, aging-resistant, and has a long service life, capable of lasting 8-12 years depending on the sand content.
Our company specializes in the research and production of dredging sediment discharge pipelines. The produced sediment transportation pipes are sold to major domestic ports such as Caofeidian, Tianjin, Binzhou, Weifang, Shanghai, Haikou, and Guangxi, as well as rivers and lakes like the Yellow River and Yangtze River, and exported to Japan, South Korea, and Africa. The quality of our dredging sediment discharge pipes is stable and reliable, with a lifetime free maintenance guarantee, and a warranty period of 8-15 years. We welcome customers from domestic and international sediment discharge projects to compare and choose our products.
