High-Density Polyethylene, abbreviated as “HDPE”. HDPE is a highly crystalline, non-polar thermoplastic resin. The natural appearance of HDPE is milky white, and it appears somewhat translucent in thin sections. PE exhibits excellent resistance to most household and industrial chemicals. Certain types of chemicals can cause chemical corrosion. This polymer is non-hygroscopic and has good water vapor resistance, making it suitable for packaging applications. HDPE pipes are a replacement for traditional steel pipes and PVC drinking water pipes. HDPE pipes must withstand certain pressures, and usually, high molecular weight and mechanically sound PE resins, such as HDPE resin, are chosen. LDPE resin has low tensile strength, pressure resistance, and rigidity, along with poor dimensional stability during processing, making it difficult to connect, and thus unsuitable as a material for water pressure pipes. However, due to its high sanitary standards, LDPE, especially LLDPE resin, has become a common material for producing drinking water pipes. LDPE and LLDPE resins have low melt viscosity, good flowability, and are easy to process, which allows for a wider range of selection for their melt flow index, typically between MI of 0.3-3g/10min.

Polyethylene is resistant to various organic solvents and to many acids and bases, but it is not resistant to oxidative acids; polyethylene can be oxidized in oxidative environments.
Physical Properties
Polyethylene can be considered transparent in film form, but in bulk form, due to the presence of a large number of crystals, it exhibits strong light scattering and is opaque. The degree of crystallinity of polyethylene is influenced by the number of branches; the more branches, the more difficult it is to crystallize. The melting temperature of polyethylene crystals is also affected by the number of branches, with a range from 90 degrees Celsius to 130 degrees Celsius; the more branches, the lower the melting temperature. Polyethylene single crystals can usually be prepared by dissolving high-density polyethylene in a medium above 130 degrees Celsius.
