Total Investment of 30 Billion Yuan, Zhongjing Petrochemical's World Largest Alkane Integrated Production Base Officially Put Into Operation
The completion of this milestone project marks a crucial step forward in the integrated, large-scale, intensive, and green development of Zhongjing Petrochemical industry, and with the world's largest single-plant capacity, it has reshaped the competitive landscape of the global alkane industry chain with strong capabilities.
With the second phase project reaching full production—an annual output of 1 million tons of propylene and 1.5 million tons of high-performance polypropylene—Zhongjing Petrochemical has established the world’s largest integrated alkane production capacity, with an annual output of 2.8 million tons of propylene and 3.8 million tons of polypropylene. With a total investment of 30 billion yuan and an annual output value of 60 billion yuan, the project can drive more than 50 billion yuan in value across the upstream and downstream industrial chains. Both its single-unit scale and single-plant output rank first in the world. This is not just a factory, but also serves as a “national calling card” for China’s high-end petrochemical industry and independent innovation.
Zhongjing Petrochemical Group has established 3 propane dehydrogenation units and 4 polypropylene units. The total investment of the project is 30 billion yuan, with an annual output value of 60 billion yuan, which can drive the upstream and downstream industrial chain output value to exceed 50 billion yuan. The scale of a single unit and the output of a single factory both rank first in the world.
The base employs globally leading technology, with a localization rate of equipment reaching as high as 99.5%, setting records with 10 world-first pieces of equipment and 8 national-first sets. For instance, the world's tallest 138-meter propylene-propane separation tower and the energy-efficient 1-million-ton propane dehydrogenation unit have broken the monopoly of foreign technologies. The project establishes a complete industrial chain from propane to polypropylene, with products covering fields such as healthcare, automotive, and construction materials. By adopting a circular economy model, energy utilization has been improved by 40%, and carbon emissions reduced by 30%, achieving green and efficient development. The commissioning of the base will enhance China's discourse power in the global chemical industry chain, promote the petrochemical industry's transformation towards high-end and intensive development, and provide stable, high-quality "Made in China" solutions to the world.
The Phase I 660,000 tons/year PDH unit of Zhongjing Petrochemical (Fujian Meide Petrochemical) was commissioned in 2021.
On May 12, 2024, Zhongjing Petrochemical's Phase II 1 million tons/year PDH unit was officially put into operation.
On May 15, 2025, the third phase of Fujian Zhongjing Petrochemical Group's 900,000-ton/year propane dehydrogenation project was officially put into operation in the Jiangyin Development Zone, Fuqing.
Zhongjing Petrochemical has made a total investment of 50 billion RMB in the Jiangyin Development Zone of Fuqing. It is currently the world's only BOPP enterprise with a complete industrial chain from propane terminal, propane, propylene, polypropylene, to polypropylene film, earning it the title of "World Film King." Once fully operational, Zhongjing Petrochemical will become a globally influential new chemical materials company, with an annual production capacity of 3 million tons of propylene, 4 million tons of polypropylene, 1.5 million tons of maleic anhydride, and 1 million tons of butanediol (BDO). Within five years, it aims to achieve a total manufacturing output value of 150 billion RMB, driving a 100 billion RMB industrial chain and a 100 billion RMB supply chain. It closely links five different industries: port, energy, chemical, plastics, and flexible packaging. It also boasts Asia's largest propane low-temperature storage area and liquid terminal, capable of receiving and storing 1 million cubic meters, forming a highly efficient competitive market. It is also the only petrochemical private enterprise in Fujian Province that uses energy as a raw material.
