Scottish recycled plastic startup reventas secures funding to quadruple production capacity and support recycled plastic development

Plastmatch Global Digest 2025-07-21 14:09:02

According to foreign media reports cited by Professional Plastic Vision on July 21, Packaging Gateway reported that recently a Scottish plastic recycling startup, ReVentas, successfully secured Series A funding and plans to upgrade its pilot recycling plant into a fully operational commercial facility.

After enhancing its processing capacity, ReVentas can increase the global plastic recycling volume and reduce the demand for new plastic production.

The plastic recycling sector faces numerous challenges, with pollution and the mixing of different plastics and colors making the situation even more complex. According to Packaging Gateway, only about 9% of plastic is recycled globally due to the significant investment required for proper plastic recycling.

ReVentas is an advanced plastic recycling technology company dedicated to solving some common challenges in plastic recycling.

The company focuses on recycling polyethylene and polypropylene plastics, which account for more than half of the total plastic worldwide. ReVentas uses powerful chemical solvents to dissolve these plastic materials, removing contaminants, colors, and odors, resulting in products that can compete with virgin plastics. These recycled plastic products are then sold to companies that use plastic for production.

ReVentas' plastic dissolution recycling solution helps reduce the cost of plastic material procurement for companies, allowing them to use already produced plastics without the need to mine and process more raw materials.

ReVentas' recycling technology can help prevent more plastic from being landfilled, avoiding the microplastic pollution of soil and water that occurs during the degradation process. Microplastics have been linked to various health issues, ranging from intestinal inflammation to reproductive problems.

Replacing plastic products with reusable alternatives such as glass or paper helps reduce household exposure to microplastics, creating a healthier home environment.

For the existing global plastic problem, recycling solutions like ReVentas help reduce the environmental impact of this common material.

With the newly acquired financing, ReVentas will expand its business scale and plans to open a commercial plant with an annual processing capacity of 11,000 tons by 2027. By 2031, this plastic recycling company aims to increase its plastic processing capacity to four times the original amount, reaching 44,000 tons per year.
