Scientific Detection of Plastic Film Residues Safeguards Farmland Ecological Security

To promote the rectification of issues identified in the third round of central ecological and environmental protection inspections, and to further strengthen the recycling and disposal of waste mulch films and residual monitoring. From April 15 to 17, the Agricultural Technology Extension Center of Hulunbuir City organized professional technical personnel to conduct field sampling for residual mulch film monitoring in Zhalantun area.

This time, the sampling work for monitoring residual mulch film was strictly conducted in accordance with the “Technical Specification for Monitoring Residual Mulch Film in Farmland of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.” Technical personnel used GPS to precisely locate monitoring sites. At each monitoring site, five square quadrats measuring 100 cm × 100 cm were selected to assess mulch film residue in the 0–30 cm soil layer. All soil within each quadrat was excavated for residual film collection, photographic documentation, and positional marking. Meanwhile, technical personnel distributed promotional materials—including the “Administrative Measures for Agricultural Mulch Film” and the “Regulations on Prevention and Control of Agricultural Mulch Film Pollution in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region”—to local farmers, explaining the adverse impacts of residual mulch film on soil structure, crop growth, and the ecological environment, thereby enhancing farmers’ environmental awareness and commitment to protecting arable land soil.

Next, Hulunbuir City will continue to intensify monitoring of residual agricultural mulch film in farmlands, improve the monitoring system, and strengthen data application, thereby providing solid support for precise monitoring, systematic remediation, and scientifically informed comprehensive decision-making regarding mulch film residue pollution, and fully advancing mulch film pollution control efforts to achieve deeper, more substantive progress and greater effectiveness.
