PET Textile Closed-Loop Recycling: Loop Launches Traceable Closed-Loop Material Twist™
In recent years, the textile industry has witnessed breakthrough technologies in its transition towards a circular economy. Recently, a new textile-to-textile closed-loop polyester resin called Twist™, launched by Canadian clean technology company Loop Industries, has attracted widespread attention in the industry. This product is regarded as a milestone innovation in the PET recycling system.

All textile waste sources, saying goodbye to bottle-to-fiber.
Twist™ resin is entirely sourced from waste textiles. Through Loop’s globally patented depolymerization process, waste polyester textiles are broken down into the monomers DMT and MEG, which are then purified and repolymerized into new Twist™ resin. This process thoroughly removes dyes, colorants, impurities, and blended components, ensuring that the final product is chemically identical in quality to virgin polyester. It is suitable for demanding fields such as high-end fashion, sportswear, and home textiles, truly achieving closed-loop recycling among textiles.

Low carbon emissions, no performance loss.
According to lifecycle assessment data from the authoritative third party Franklin Associates, the constructed Infinite Loop™ facility with a production capacity of 70,000 tons per year will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 418,600 tons annually, equivalent to the emissions generated by over one billion miles of automobile driving. Compared to virgin PET produced from fossil raw materials, greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced by up to 81%. At the same time, Twist™ offers excellent purity, consistent whiteness, and dyeing performance, allowing it to be directly integrated into existing spinning and downstream manufacturing systems without the need for additional equipment modifications.

Embedded traceable identification to enhance circulation transparency
Twist™ incorporates proprietary chemical tracers into the resin, enabling brands to trace finished product information back to the original textile waste source and ensuring transparency and credibility throughout the production chain. This comprehensive “waste-to-product” traceability capability is the first of its kind in the current textile recycling sector. It is expected to enhance consumer and regulatory trust in sustainability claims and help global fashion giants respond swiftly to sustainability regulations and public pressure.

Global layout, promoting an industrial closed loop
The first batch of Twist™ will be expanded from Loop's base in Terrebonne, Canada, and mass-produced at the Infinite Loop™ plant in India, providing a closed-loop polyester resin solution that balances performance, cost, and environmental friendliness. Loop has engaged in in-depth discussions with several international brands to pave the way for the large-scale commercialization of Twist™.
The launch of Twist™ marks a key step for the textile industry from “bottle-to-fiber” to “fiber-to-fiber,” driving the polyester textile sector towards a truly sustainable, efficient, and trustworthy circular model through features such as closed-loop recycling, high-performance regeneration, and precise traceability. For the PET-centered recycling and regeneration industry, Twist™ will become an important new variable for enhancing the recycling value chain and broadening application scenarios.
