NexPoint Resin Achieves Highest High-Pressure Safety Rating

Plastmatch Global Digest 2026-10-29 10:47:54

As electric vehicle battery voltages rise, NexPoint’s thermoplastic resins provide performance support backed by data for next-generation electrification designs.

NexPoint Materials’ two engineering thermoplastics—Lexan BPL1000 and Cycoloy C2950 resins—achieved the highest rating of 900 volts in the UL 2597 Surface Tracking Test (STT) for high-voltage applications.

The results demonstrate resistance to surface tracking under high-voltage conditions, providing valuable performance data for engineers evaluating insulating materials in transportation, electrical, electronic, and other high-load applications, including electric vehicle (EV) systems, fast-charging architectures, connectors, and battery systems.

Consider surface tracking resistance

Surface tracking refers to the gradual formation of conductive paths due to electrical discharges on the surface of insulating materials, leading to carbonization and damage that compromise electrical insulation. Surface tracking resistance is a critical consideration in the design of high-voltage electrical systems.

Insulation Material Evaluation

The UL Standardized 2597 surface tracking test method evaluates insulating materials for transportation applications within a voltage range of 600 to 900 volts, providing engineers with additional performance data for designing high-voltage systems where surface tracking resistance is critical.

NexPoint’s high-performance materials are not limited to Lexan and Cycoloy resins. Flame-retardant Valox resins include grades with high comparative tracking indices, as well as other resins designed for high-temperature applications. For example, Valox resin compounds include grades with a Relative Thermal Index (RTI) of up to 140°C.

The demand for high-voltage and high-thermal-performance capabilities extends beyond transportation. Miniaturization is a critical consideration in the design of electrical connectors for AI data centers, as constrained server racks must accommodate a large number of fiber-optic cables while supporting high-speed data transmission. High-CTI materials help engineers reduce creepage distances while maintaining sufficient safety margins to prevent electrical failures. NexPoint’s portfolio of high-CTI resin products is designed to help data center engineers meet these requirements with more compact connectors.

Flame-retardant resins such as Lexan, Cycoloy, and Valox offer a variety of material options for high-voltage connectors, electric vehicle fast-charging systems, and power distribution and energy storage applications. Leveraging its deep expertise and application development resources, NexPoint supports these materials to help customers design safer, more compact, and higher-performance electrical systems.
