Mondelez International Launches Cadbury Easter Eggs in Packaging Made with 65% Recycled Plastic
Global snack giant Mondelēz International recently announced a new milestone in its journey towards sustainable packaging - aimed at making Easter sweeter and more environmentally friendly. During Easter 2026, Cadbury Mini Eggs in three sizes (31.9g, 74g, and 256g) will be packaged for the first time using materials that contain 65% certified recycled plastic, a proportion confirmed through a mass balance approach.
In addition, small and large Cadbury Easter chocolate tablets will also use packaging materials containing 80% certified recycled plastic, balanced through the mass balance method; meanwhile, the ribbon handles on the Cadbury Special Collection Easter eggs will be replaced with recyclable cardboard.
These initiatives continue Mondelez's ongoing efforts to improve sustainable packaging throughout the Easter period. Last year, the company launched the "Cadbury Easter Favorites Mix Bag" with outer paper packaging and, even earlier, eliminated 6.4 million plastic transparent windows across its entire Easter egg range.

The 2026 new packaging was jointly developed and produced by Mondelez and its long-term partner, global leading responsible packaging solution supplier Amcor. The packaging uses Amcor's AmFiniti™ recycled material technology, which transforms post-consumer plastic waste into new packaging. Through this collaboration, it is expected that approximately 134 tons of raw material will be sourced from post-consumer recycled plastic this year, used to produce packaging for multiple varieties of Cadbury Easter products, equivalent to covering about 16 million seasonal chocolate bars and 70 million mini eggs per year. This achievement is made possible by advanced recycling and processing technologies.
As a beloved global snack company, Mondelēz is striving to bring more eco-friendly packaging directly to consumers. Starting with the Easter 2026 launch, the back of Cadbury Mini Eggs packaging—available in 31.9 g, 74 g, and 256 g sizes—will feature a scannable QR code, enabling consumers to learn about the recycled materials used in the product and Mondelēz’s overall sustainable packaging strategy.
Easter 2026 marks another positive step for Mondelēz International toward achieving its global sustainability goals. The company plans to continuously increase the proportion of recycled plastic in its packaging. Its global targets include achieving 98% recyclable packaging design by 2030, accompanied by clear consumer recycling instructions. To date, 96% of its total packaging is designed to be recyclable. Additionally, Mondelēz aims to reduce virgin plastic use in rigid plastic packaging by at least 25% by 2030, as part of its global “Pack Light and Right” strategy.
