Continental is preparing to sell its plastics and rubber business unit, ContiTech, and has received strong interest from potential buyers.

Continental announced that it plans to complete the preparation for the sale of its ContiTech business by the end of 2025. CFO Roland Welzbacher stated, "Even before officially starting the sales process, potential buyers have shown strong interest. We receive calls from potential buyers almost every week, asking, 'When will it begin? We want to be involved.' Therefore, I am very confident that we can achieve a great purchase price for ContiTech. Once the preparations are complete, we will begin discussions with investors."

The sale process for ContiTech is scheduled to begin in early 2026 and aims to complete the sale of this business segment by the end of 2026. By then, Continental Group will only retain the profitable tire business.

The sale of ContiTech is part of Continental Group's strategic restructuring aimed at reducing company debt. The proceeds from the sale will primarily be used to repay debt. In addition, the company plans to use the remaining funds for special dividends or stock buybacks, which will benefit shareholders. Continental Group announced the decision to sell ContiTech in April this year, stating that divesting this business is the most likely option. This move follows a trend in the automotive industry where companies are realigning their business sectors to focus on core competencies and gain financial flexibility.

In recent years, Continental Group has undertaken several strategic adjustments to adapt to the ever-changing market environment. The divestment of ContiTech is another step in this direction for Continental Group, which will help strengthen its position in the industry and open up new growth opportunities. Continental Group is currently in the process of splitting. In September this year, its automotive parts business unit, Aumovio, was successfully separated through an IPO. By 2026, Continental Group will transform into a pure tire manufacturer.
