How to Avoid Pitfalls in Color Matching and Processing With 8 Different Special Color Masterbatches
01How to mix special white plastic?
Choose chloride process titanium dioxide with bluish light (small particle size, even distribution), as this is the key to bright white! Titanium dioxide with yellowish light and large particle size cannot be adjusted to achieve that pure white.
Not white enough?Add a very small amount of blue/purple pigment. You can use fluorescent whitening agents (which are the most effective but expensive), or the simplest option is to use fresh blue and white blocks, which produces what is commonly referred to in the market as "magnetic white."
02How to deal with black plastic?
Want deep, glossy black? Choose carbon black with small particle size and low structure! The smaller the particle size, the stronger the light absorption and the weaker the reflection, resulting in a more intense black.
The key is to ensure good dispersion of carbon black; those with a high degree of oxidation (high volatile content) have stronger dispersibility and maximize tinting strength.
Always tinged with yellow light?Add 8%-10% of pigment blue 15:3====.To make it darker, add some purple or red, dark to the point of glowing!
03How to adjust gray plastic without messing up?
First, understand the two "main characters": small particle size carbon black + titanium dioxide results in a yellow-toned gray; large particle size carbon black + titanium dioxide results in a blue-toned gray. Titanium dioxide with larger particle sizes brings a yellow tint, while smaller particle sizes bring a blue tint, don't get it wrong!
The tone is not good?Add pigments with low tinting strength (such as iron oxide, metal oxides)Stability is even better.
04How does outdoor plastic withstand wind and sun exposure?
Dark colors: Choose light-resistant and weather-resistant colorants, use less/no titanium dioxide, add more UV absorbers and antioxidants to prevent resin from fading.
Light-colored style:Prefer inorganic pigments (heat-resistant, low tinting strength), such as iron oxide yellow and ultramarine blue.Organic pigments tend to fade and have color inconsistencies.
05How to match light-colored transparent plastic?
The resin should be transparent and colorless (such as PP, transparent styrene), and the colorant should have good transparency and consistent hue.
Inorganic pigment pass!In the organic pigments, choose these: isoindolinone yellow, perylene red, phthalocyanine blue/green, with maximum transparency.
06How to create a sense of sophistication with pearlescent plastic?
Injection molding adds 1%, film extrusion adds 4%-8%, co-extrusion depends on thickness adds 5%-10%. Resin needs to be transparent, with transparent organic pigments. Don't add titanium dioxide.Consider the weather resistance of pearlescent pigments for outdoor use.
Increasing back pressure and temperature during processing, using a smoother mold and single gate design, results in more uniform pearlescence; reducing shear force prevents damage to pearlescent sheet crystals.
pmma/PC/PAKeep dry before use.PVC can be protected from decomposition using gold/bronze pearlescent powder, while for silver which is prone to yellowing, choose an anti-yellowing version.
07How to achieve a metallic texture with gold and silver plastic?
Use aluminum powder! 5μm has excellent hiding power, 20-30μm can mix colors, and 330μm has a coarse sparkling effect. Those with a silicon oxide protective film on the surface are heat resistant, weather resistant, and do not turn white.
Copper powder! With added silicon dioxide protective film, it doesn't darken during high-temperature injection molding, and its weather resistance improves.
Don't add too much titanium dioxide or pearlescent powder. To reduce flow marks, use large particle size metal powder, increase the amount added, and speed up the injection rate.
