Filling Industry Gap, GEM Holds Grand Ceremony for Global First Mass Production and Delivery of Ultra-High Nickel 9-Series Quaternary Core-Shell Precursor
On July 21, 2025, GEM’s Jingmen Campus held a grand ceremony for the mass production and delivery of the world’s first and only industrialized ultra-high nickel 9-series quaternary core-shell precursor. After six years of technological breakthroughs, GEM’s ultra-high nickel 9-series quaternary core-shell precursor product represents the highest global technological achievement in the field of lithium battery precursor manufacturing. It has successfully filled the industrialization gap in the global ultra-high nickel 9-series quaternary core-shell precursor sector, fully demonstrating the absolute strength of Chinese enterprises in independent innovation and technological breakthroughs in the field of high-end new energy materials.
Amidst the enthusiastic sound of celebratory gunfire, Dr. Zhang Kun, Senior Vice President of Greenmei Group and Director of the Central Research Institute, solemnly announced: "The world's first mass production and delivery of the ultra-high nickel 9-series quaternary core-shell precursor has officially begun!"

Since the launch of core-shell research and development in 2019, the GEM R&D team has spent six years tackling technical challenges to open up new incremental channels. Through a three-stage micron structure design, and without changing the total metal composition of the material, the micron-sized precursor material has been upgraded from a single-stage structure to a three-stage core-shell structure. From the inner core to the outer shell, the nickel content gradually decreases while the manganese content gradually increases, reducing the activity of the material's interface with the electrolyte and minimizing side reactions. This improves cycling stability and safety performance while ensuring high energy density.
The Ganfeng Technology team successfully developed the world's first 8-series high-nickel core-shell and the world's first 9-series ultra-high nickel core-shell technologies in 2022 and April 2025, respectively. This time, with the increased difficulty of the 9-series quaternary core-shell, through precise control of wet nano-assembly and crystal facet-oriented growth technologies, they overcame a series of key technical challenges and successfully realized the industrialization of ultra-high nickel quaternary materials. This technology represents the highest global achievement in the field of lithium battery precursor manufacturing and is the first and only industrialized application of quaternary core-shell precursors worldwide.

The planned monthly shipment volume of this product reaches 2,000 tons, with 100% supplied to the supply chains of leading international enterprises. By taking bold technological strides, the company is opening up new growth channels in the precursor market, greatly stabilizing its global market presence and effectively responding to the challenges of global competition. The successful launch of mass production and shipment fully demonstrates GEM’s leading position in R&D, production, and market dimensions within the global new energy materials industry, achieving a splendid transformation from research-driven innovation and technological breakthroughs to economic value.
The world's first industrialization practice of ultra-high nickel 9-series quaternary core-shell precursor not only fills the industry gap but also successfully breaks through the technical barriers of precursor materials. It once again demonstrates the competitiveness of Chinese enterprises in the high-end materials field, elevating GEM's technological spirit and high-end products prominently in the global new energy industry.
Chairman of the Supervisory Board of GEM Group, Lu Xijin, the Group's Senior Vice President and Director of the Central Research Institute, Dr. Zhang Kun, the Group's Vice President Dong Yuebin, and the Group's Vice President Lü Zhi attended the ceremony to jointly witness this historic moment.
