Evonik Fully Switches to Renewable Electricity for Epoxy Curing Agents Production
Evonik has taken another step forward on the path to sustainability: all of its global epoxy curing agent production plants now operate on 100% renewable electricity. This includes facilities in Marl, Germany; Clayton, UK; Isehara, Japan; Los Angeles, USA; Singapore; and Nanjing, China. This initiative enables the epoxy curing agent production facilities to reduce approximately one third of their Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions annually, supporting Evonik’s strategic goals to reduce emissions by 25% by 2030 and to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.
Tobias Winkler, Global Sustainability Manager for Evonik Crosslinkers, stated: "Using green electricity to produce epoxy curing agents on a global scale is an important step in our sustainability journey. By utilizing renewable energy, we not only reduce carbon emissions but also pave the way for innovative practices that align with long-term climate goals."
This initiative is based on Evonik’s broad commitment to using green electricity and sourcing sustainable energy. Earlier this year, the Crosslinkers business line of Evonik began trading green power certificates and establishing renewable electricity supply agreements, thereby ensuring that all its epoxy curing agent production sites are powered by green electricity.
Christina Walkosak, Senior Vice President of Evonik Epoxy Curing Agents, stated: “We will continue to enrich our portfolio of sustainable products to meet customers’ needs for enhanced product sustainability and to consolidate Evonik’s leading position as a reliable long-term partner in the epoxy industry.”
Evonik epoxy curing agents are important raw materials in the coatings and construction industries, and are widely used in applications such as high-performance composites and adhesives.
