China Resources Beverage Releases First Earnings Report After Listing: Packaged Water Business Under Pressure, Significant Growth in Beverage Sector

Packaged water brand "C'estbon" parent company China Resources Beverage (Holdings) Co., Ltd. (referred to as "China Resources Beverage") released its first financial report after listing, showing that China Resources Beverage achieved operating revenue of 13.521 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 0.05%; the profit attributable to the owners of the company for the year was 1.637 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 23.12%.

CR Beverage's products mainly include brands such as "C'estbon", "Benyou", "Zhiben Qingrun", "Honey Water Series", and "Holiday Series", which are primarily divided into two categories: packaged drinking water products and beverage products. According to the financial report, the revenue from packaged drinking water products accounts for 89.7% of CR Beverage's total revenue, while the revenue from beverage products accounts for 10.3% of the total revenue. CR Beverage stated that due to frequent rainfall during the peak season in the third quarter of 2024, sales were affected at a certain stage. The company responded to external challenges by launching new products, expanding the depth and breadth of channels, strengthening brand building, and improving the supply chain.

 

 

By business segment, China Resources Beverage's packaged drinking water products include bottled water products under the C'estbon, C'estbon Dew, Benyou, and FEEL brands, as well as barrelled water products under the C'estbon and Jialinshan brands. According to data provided by CIC, in 2024, the retail sales of China's packaged drinking water products market will increase by 2.5% year-on-year, while the retail sales of China Resources Beverage's packaged drinking water products will grow by 4.5% year-on-year. It is worth noting that the company's packaged drinking water products recorded a full-year revenue of 12.124 billion yuan, a decrease of 2.6% compared to 2023.

China Resources Beverage stated that in the face of slowing consumption growth, intensifying market competition in the beverage industry, changes in consumer habits and consumption scenarios, as well as extreme weather and other external environmental changes, the company has increased resource investment in channels and terminal markets. It actively expands catering and special channels, develops emerging channels such as e-commerce and household, to consolidate its market position. However, in the purified water market where C'estbon excels, its biggest competitor, Nongfu Spring, also launched a purified water product in 2024. Nongfu Spring's green bottled purified water is seen by the industry as a direct competitor to C'estbon's purified water, and it quickly seized market share with a price lower than 1 yuan per bottle, putting certain market pressure on C'estbon.

In the beverage business, China Resources Beverage disclosed that in recent years, while maintaining steady development of the packaged drinking water business, the company has continuously promoted the development of the beverage business, actively creating a second growth curve. In 2024, it recorded revenue of 1.397 billion yuan, an increase of 30.8% over 2023. Currently, China Resources Beverage has four brands of tea beverages: Zhiben Qingrun herbal plant drinks, Zuowei Cha Shi sugar-free tea drinks, as well as Yuanshi Zhiming and Afternoon Milk Tea. It has three brands of juice beverages, namely, Honey Water series, Holiday series, and "From the World's Kitchen"; other beverage products mainly include sports drink Magic and coffee drink Fire Coffee, etc.
