BASF Expands Asian Business Landscape With New Alkyl Glycosides Plant in Thailand

BASF announced the construction of a new alkyl polyglucosides (APG) plant in Bang Pakong, Thailand.Enhance sustainable surfactant production capacity.Further expand its business footprint in Asia. This move aims to strengthen its position in the growth markets of Asia through a robust regional network and to serve customers in a more agile and flexible manner.
The expansion aims to enhance BASF's supply capacity in one of its key growth areas. By building this new plant in Thailand, the company intends to serve its customers in the personal care, home care, and industrial sectors with greater flexibility and agility.
The factory located in Bangpakong completes BASF's global APG production network, which already includes facilities in Düsseldorf, Germany; Jinshan, China; and Cincinnati, USA. The company also mentioned that a new APG production line in Cincinnati is planned to be operational by 2026.
APG is a bio-based and easily biodegradable surfactant made from 100% natural renewable resources. Because they are non-ionic, they can blend well with other surfactants and are widely used in personal care, home care, industrial and institutional cleaning, industrial formulations, and agriculture.
From a broader perspective, this investment aligns with the plan BASF announced back in June 2023. At that time, the company proposed expanding APG capacity at its sites in Bangpakong and Cincinnati. The plan views capacity expansion as a way to reduce cross-regional transportation volumes and improve responsiveness to local markets.
The completion of the factory highlights BASF's long-term commitment to sustainable surfactant chemistry and its determination to maintain a strong and regionally balanced presence. By localizing production and bringing it closer to its customer base in Asia, BASF is able to respond more quickly to market growth and the evolving demand for green bio-based chemical solutions.
