Clariant Unveils Cost-Cutting Plan Details, Plans to Shut Down Multiple Plants
On November 21, Zhuansu Vision learned that Clariant recently provided details of its production rationalization plan mentioned in its recent third-quarter financial report to Chemical Weekly (CW). Clariant CEO Conrad Keijzer stated in an interview with Chemical Weekly on October 30 that these plans are "at different stages" and are part of the company's broader efficiency improvement plan.

Clariant revealed to Chemical Weekly that it has closed its care chemicals plant in Zarate, Argentina, in the third quarter of 2025; at the same time, it plans to close its ethylene oxide and derivatives facility in Gendorf, Germany, in the fourth quarter of 2025.
In addition, Clariant plans to cease production at its adsorbent plant located in Porte de Valence, France, in early 2026.
The company has announced plans to close its light stabilizer facility located in Muttenz, Switzerland, by the end of 2026. Clariant revealed to the Chemical Weekly that it is currently in discussions regarding the closure plan and will announce the exact closure date by March 2026.
Keijzer told Chemical Weekly that Clariant conducted an evaluation of "end-of-life asset businesses" and identified opportunities for structural optimization.
As of September 30, 2025, Clariant has achieved 31 million Swiss francs of the 80 million Swiss francs annual cost savings target announced in November 2024. According to the company's previous announcement, the remaining cost reduction targets are planned to be completed by the end of 2027.
Clariant stated that the restructuring measures include the layoffs of 340 positions announced since 2025, including layoffs due to factory closures and procurement cost savings. In the third quarter of 2025, cost savings of approximately 19 million Swiss francs were achieved, resulting in restructuring costs of about 3 million Swiss francs; the total restructuring costs for the year are expected to amount to 75 million Swiss francs.
