Annual production of 1 million tons of bottle-grade polyester chip project announced! Includes 200,000 tons of RPET
On March 13, 2025, the Nantong Data Bureau released the acceptance announcement of the environmental impact report for the project by Kersen (Nantong) New Materials Co., Ltd. to produce 1 million tons of bottle-grade polyester chips (800,000 tons of PET and 200,000 tons of RPET) annually, along with 2,178 tons of acetaldehyde as a by-product.
Project Name: Annual production of 1 million tons of bottle-grade polyester chips (800,000 tons of PET, 200,000 tons of RPET) and by-production of 2,178 tons of acetaldehyde project
Construction unit: Kersen (Nantong) New Materials Co., Ltd.
construction nature: new construction
Construction site: South side of Latitude 2nd Road, west side of Longitude 2nd Road, Yangkou Port Lingang Industrial Zone, Rudong County, Nantong City, Jiangsu Province
Land area: 138062.66m²
Total investment: The total investment for the first phase is 102,676 million yuan, and for the second phase it is 131,347 million yuan, with a total investment of 234,023 million yuan: of which about 112.5 million yuan is invested in environmental protection, accounting for 4.8% of the total investment.
Construction content: This project plans to build a total scale of 1 million tons per year of bottle-grade polyester chip (800,000 tons of PET, 200,000 tons of RPET) and a by-product of 2,178 tons of acetaldehyde. The project will be constructed in 2 phases, with the construction content for each phase as follows:
Phase one: 2 PET production lines with an annual capacity of 200,000 tons each (including esterification and polymerization units), 1 by-product acetaldehyde recovery unit (with an annual output of 908.3 tons in phase one, 1269.7 tons in phase two, and a total annual output of 2178 tons after the completion of phase two), as well as corresponding utility and auxiliary facilities:
Phase II: 2 PET production lines with an annual capacity of 200,000 tons each (including esterification units and polymerization units), 1 RPET production line with an annual capacity of 200,000 tons (including bottle flake regeneration unit and polymerization unit), as well as the corresponding utility and auxiliary facilities.
Among them, the PET production facility adopts the proprietary technology of the general contractor Oerlikon Barmag Huition (Yangzhou) Engineering Co., Ltd. (referred to as: OBHE). The de-aldehyde equipment accompanying the PET production uses the patented technology of the construction unit KOKSAN Group, using compressed air instead of conventional nitrogen to de-aldehyde high-viscosity chips during the polymerization stage, significantly reducing operating costs and energy consumption, with obvious technological advancement.
As a leading company in the green packaging industry chain in Central and Western Asia, the Turkish Kosen Group mainly supplies food-grade polyester packaging products to more than 100 countries in North Africa, the Middle East, Western Asia, and Europe, with cooperative clients including globally renowned beverage and oil producers such as Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, and Nestle.
In November 2024, the Kersen Group invested $7.1 billion to build a 2.2 million ton "green polyester new material" project in five phases. Among them, the first phase includes two production lines for bottle-grade polyester chips with an annual capacity of 200,000 tons each. This is also the first production line in the country to use a one-step liquid-phase viscosity-increasing process for producing bottle-grade polyester chips. After production starts, it will require about 1,000 tons of PTA raw materials per day.
Kesen (Nantong) New Materials Co., Ltd. was established on September 2, 2024, and is a subsidiary of the Turkish Kesen Group in China, responsible for implementing this major project.
According to the project schedule, the first phase of the project is expected to complete the foundation excavation in April, start the main construction at the end of the month, top out the polyester building in August, and deliver for installation by the end of September. The entire project will be completed and put into production by June next year. After reaching full production, the project can achieve an annual output value of 2.8 billion yuan.
