A Five-Story Theater Built with "Plastic"? Rubber and Plastic in Construction and Infrastructure Pull Off More Than Just This "Divine Move"...

CHINAPLAS1 2026-04-09 15:54:17

3D printing for grand theaters, using plastic to build houses

Such a divine move—you’ve seen it before, right?

That’s right—it’s this one that went viral.

What makes 3D printing technology remarkable? Simply put, it “saves.” By precisely layering materials, this technology reduces construction material usage by 20%–30% and cuts rework and waste by over 80% compared to traditional methods.

To ensure the building withstands wind and weathering, the project team developed a dedicated plastic alloy material formulation and post-treatment process. After full-spectrum UV accelerated aging testing, the material retains over 80% of its performance after 20 years of outdoor use.

*The numbers in parentheses are the booth numbers of the exhibitors at CHINAPLAS 2026 International Rubber and Plastics Exhibition.*

BASF (7.2C41)

BASF will showcase its innovative plastic additive solutions for outdoor applications, agricultural plastics, and industrial applications.

BASF Tinuvin NOR 600 offers excellent long-term weatherability and acid resistance. When used in combination with other BASF light stabilizers, it exhibits synergistic effects, significantly enhancing the UV and high-temperature resistance of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and its alloys, as well as polyolefin plastics. It is particularly suitable for outdoor applications such as roofing waterproofing membranes, truck tarps, and artificial turf.

NatureWorks(1.2D58)

NatureWorks' Ingeo 3D700 is specifically designed for large-format 3D printing. By controlling the polymer's microstructure, this amorphous PLA resin grade features low material shrinkage, reducing warpage and improving gap filling and adhesion.

Ingeo polylactic acid (PLA) biopolymer filament is widely used in the 3D printing market and exhibits prominent performance characteristics, including high print resolution, excellent bed adhesion, the ability to print on unheated build plates, reduced warping or curling, and minimal odor emission during printing.

Adenise Cameison (8.2F52)

The use of stabilizers ensures sufficient thermal stability of PVC during processing and prevents the final product from undergoing changes due to heat, UV radiation, or oxidation.

Adenis Kaimeisen's PVC composite stabilizer/PVC stabilizer can be used in rigid window profiles, rigid PVC pipes, injection molding, cable insulation and sheathing, rigid and flexible sheets, flooring materials, artificial leather, shoe soles, and more.

Borealis (6.2C32)

Borealis’ Borstar® HE3477-RT is a new PE-RT Type II bimodal material, developed using Borealis’ Borstar technology, based on ethylene-hexene copolymerization. It exhibits higher pressure resistance at elevated temperatures and a service life exceeding 50 years.

This material is gradually replacing traditional metal materials in industrial applications such as high-temperature radiators, enhanced thermoplastic pipes (RTP), especially district heating, due to its excellent performance. With outstanding corrosion resistance, low thermal conductivity, and excellent mechanical properties, it effectively reduces system heat loss and maintenance frequency, improves energy efficiency, and helps industries reduce costs, enhance efficiency, and achieve energy conservation and emissions reduction.

SIKORA(2.1J61)

SIKORA’s CENTERWAVE 6000, a high-end millimeter-wave inspection system specifically designed for plastic pipes, employs FMCW (Frequency-Modulated Continuous-Wave) millimeter-wave measurement technology.

The device has a patented function of automatically identifying the pipe refractive index. When facing small batch, multiple batches, and orders requiring changes in product specifications, the device's measurement is not affected by pipe temperature or material changes, and does not require repeated manual input of product parameters.

It is also equipped with a transceiver capable of continuous 360° rotation, with its rotational speed synchronized to the line speed, enabling circumferential measurement during pipe production and ensuring 100% coverage of the entire pipe cross-section. Additionally, this equipment reduces material consumption and saves time and costs.

The device is suitable for measuring the outer diameter of plastic pipes ranging from 32 to 1600 mm (customizable for larger ranges), such as pipes used for water supply, gas supply, chemical products, and oil transportation. It is particularly suitable for common plastic pipes such as PE, HDPE, PP, PA6, and PVC. The device has been successfully applied in the production lines of high-performance PVC-O pipes and high-value PVDF pipes.

Yi Ke Mould (7.1A25)

Yike Mould will showcase multiple new extrusion mould technologies and solutions:

Five-layer co-extruded PVC foam board: the upper and lower surfaces of the PVC foam board are co-extruded with UPVC, while the core layer simultaneously adds rigid PVC structure. There are two layers of foam and three layers of rigid PVC. The board maintains lightweight while significantly improving impact resistance, nail holding power, and bending strength.

New-type internal and external skin-forming WPC door panel mold: Both the door panel surface and the core of the holes form a skin structure simultaneously, resulting in straighter inner diameters, increased hardness, superior appearance, and enhanced overall strength.

Shanghai Juyuan Plastic Machinery (7.1C10)

Shanghai Juyuan Plastic Machinery’s PVC-U 2,000 mm large-diameter pressure pipe extrusion solution, featuring a high-torque parallel twin-screw extruder, an optimized flow-path large-diameter die, and a stable vacuum sizing and cooling system.

  • Pipe diameter range: DN1000 - DN2000 can be covered;

  • Application fields: municipal water supply and drainage, long-distance water transmission, industrial piping networks, etc.;

  • High filling, high yield, low energy consumption operation;

  • The pipe has stable dimensions, uniform wall thickness, a smooth inner surface, and excellent ring stiffness.

Junsheng Machinery (2.2F55)

The Junsheng Machinery HDPE drainage board production line has the following advantages:

  • The circular protrusions on the drainage board have uniform wall thickness.

  • Compressive strength is 50% higher than similar products;

  • The same forming roller, with different pits replaced, can produce different sizes.

  • Replaceable molds, round and square;

  • The drainage board thickness ranges from 0.5 to 5.5 mm, and the width can reach up to 5000 mm.

  • Two-color products can be produced by another model of machine.
