US Expert States: Americans Only Prioritize Value When Buying Cars

New Energy Vehicle Network 2026-02-19 14:39:12

Recently, CNN reported that Chinese automakers may accelerate their entry into the U.S. market, with experts speculating that this could happen in the next 5 to 10 years.

Meanwhile, American politicians and domestic automakers frequently use "national security" and "privacy protection" as reasons to obstruct it.

Numerous industry experts have stated that the entry of Chinese automobiles into the US market will benefit local consumers.

Bill Russo, head of Automobility in Shanghai, stated bluntly that Americans do not care about the manufacturer when buying a car, only focusing on vehicle quality and value for money, just as they often buy Chinese goods at Walmart. He believes that xenophobia will not have a significant impact.

He also pointed out that the competitiveness of Chinese brands is not only in price, but also in quality and technology. Chinese car companies can offer better technology at affordable prices, and the American market's concerns about the trustworthiness of Chinese brands can be overcome quickly.

The price advantage has become a core competency for Chinese automobiles, with the average export price of Chinese cars being around $19,000, while the average price of new cars in the US is $51,000, a difference of over $30,000.

Industry data shows that China became the world's largest auto exporter in 2023, and its export volume is projected to exceed 8 million vehicles in 2025, a 30% year-on-year increase.

The electric vehicle sector has been particularly outstanding, with BYD achieving global pure electric vehicle sales of 2.2567 million units in 2025. This not only surpassed Tesla to become the world's number one, but also outsold Ford. Currently, Chinese cars entering the US market still face high tariffs of 100%, but the US government has signaled that localization through building factories domestically would allow entry. Ford is also discussing potential frameworks with the US side for Chinese automakers to establish joint ventures in the US.
