Strohm Wins First Order in Egypt to Supply Carbon Fiber Thermoplastic Composite Pipe (TCP) Flowlines, Supporting Deepwater Oil and Gas Upgrades
Dutch thermoplastic composite pipe (TCP) leader Strohm, headquartered in IJmuiden, has announced that it has been awarded a contract for Egypt’s West Delta Deep Marine (WDDM) project to supply a 2,000-meter carbon fiber-reinforced PA12 TCP flowline. This marks Strohm’s first order in the Egyptian market.
The project is operated by Burullus Gas Co., a joint venture between Egypt’s EGAS, Shell, and Malaysia’s Petronas. The pipeline has a design pressure of 5,000 psi and complies with DNV-ST-F1The 19-standard TCP will replace the existing steel flowline in nearly 600-meter-deep waters and will be installed by Oceaneering International of the United States using a horizontal lay method. It can be deployed with a multi-purpose work vessel, without the need for a dedicated pipe-laying vessel, significantly reducing installation costs and complexity. This is the first application of such a TCP solution in the region.

Kazakhstan imposes a six-month import ban on certain building materials

APR and ANIPAC Sign Cooperation Agreement to Promote Plastics Recycling and the Circular Economy in Mexico
The Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) and the National Association of Plastic Industry of Mexico (ANIPAC) have reached a cooperation agreement aimed at enhancing the recyclability of plastic products, promoting international recyclability design standards, and advancing the quality and upgrading of the circular economy industry in Mexico.
The cooperation between the two parties aims to build a platform for technical and strategic collaboration, promoting advanced practical standards across the entire plastics industry chain, covering the full process from packaging and product design, material recycling, and reprocessing to the re-entry of recycled materials into the end market.
Overcoming the Challenge of Plastic Degradation! A New Simple Chemical Process Enables Efficient, Green Degradation and Upcycling of Conventional Plastics
Recently, researchers from the University of Edinburgh and RPTU University Kaiserslautern-Landau in Germany developed a new process that can convert traditional plastics used in food packaging and 3D printing materials into polysulfide esters. This biodegradable plastic exhibits unique chemical properties and degrades faster than existing environmentally friendly materials.
This innovation tackles a major environmental challenge: currently, about 99% of the plastic in global circulation is not biodegradable. Although environmentally friendly plastic alternatives are available on the market, most degrade slowly or require high temperatures and highly corrosive chemicals to be fully broken down.
