Fujian Butadiene Makes First Export! Petrochemical “Hexagon Warrior” Sets Sail from Quanzhou
Recently, under the supervision of Quanzhou Customs, 2,000 metric tons of butadiene produced by Sinochem Quanzhou Petrochemical Co., Ltd. were successfully loaded onto a vessel at the Hui'an Douwei Port for export to South Korea. This marks the first time butadiene made in Fujian has been exported overseas, signifying a new breakthrough in expanding into high-end international petrochemical markets and injecting fresh impetus into the high-quality development of Fujian's petrochemical industry.

Butadiene is an important byproduct of the ethylene industry, and it is a core raw material for the production of synthetic rubber, plastics, and fibers. Its applications involve multiple fields such as automobiles, construction, electronics, and home appliances. Due to its unique structure, strong reactivity, strong ring-forming ability, wide polymerization range, and stable performance, it is called the "hexagon warrior" of the petrochemical industry. As one of the nine planned petrochemical bases in the country, Quanzhou relies on the Qiuwei and Qiuwei Petrochemical Industrial Parks, which have a refining capacity of over 29 million tons per year and an ethylene production capacity of 2.1 million tons. A complete industrial chain has been formed, covering from refining to chemical fiber, plastic, specialty gases, and fine chemicals. This is the first export of butadiene, following the release of the "Overall Development Plan for the Putian Bay (Qiuwei, Qiuwei) Petrochemical Base (2020-2030)" and after the export of toluene, styrene, and methyl tert-butyl ether. To date, the number of chemical bulk commodities exported from Quanzhou port has increased to nine.
Due to the fact that butadiene is a colorless gas with a faint aromatic odor, possessing hazardous characteristics such as flammability, and given the relatively short international trading window, the export of the product faces significant challenges. For this, Quanzhou Customs, taking into account the hazardous properties and risk factors of the product, provided "one-on-one" full-process guidance to the company for standardized declaration and meticulously formulated a supervision plan, supporting butadiene's first foray into the international market; by leveraging the "Smart Supervision" platform for petrochemical products, it achieved full-process, safe, and intelligent supervision of product storage, transportation, tank consolidation, and loading; it also opened a green channel for the export of bulk chemicals, continuously promoting facilitation measures such as "advance declaration, direct loading upon arrival," and "one-click inspection," to fully compress customs clearance time, ensuring the efficient "going global" of butadiene produced in Fujian.

"Thanks to the efficient and professional service of customs! The first batch of butadiene has successfully 'set sail'"’"It has blazed a new path for our company's transformation and upgrading toward 'reducing oil and increasing chemicals,' boosting our confidence and determination to expand international markets for chemical commodities!" said a representative from the Business Planning Department of Sinochem Petrochemical Sales (Fujian) Co., Ltd., delightedly.
