Daily review: Downstream Follows Demand, Polyester Bottle Chip Market Adjusts Within Range
Market Overview: On June 1, 2026, the PET bottle chip market remained stable in price. The average market price of PET bottle chips in East China was RMB 8,370/ton, unchanged from the previous working day. Upstream polyester feedstocks fluctuated at relatively firm levels, and cost-side support remained in place. Most PET bottle chip producers raised their quotations by RMB 50–100/ton, but downstream buyers remained cautious about entering the market, with light buying interest, and the actual transaction focus in the market stayed in a stalemate and consolidation pattern.
On the supply side, the overall operating rate of polyester bottle-grade chips is around 77.51%.
Upstream market: International oil prices rose broadly during the day, providing favorable cost support. The domestic PTA market in East China moved higher, with prices around RMB 6,300/tonne. The ethylene glycol market operated on a firmer note, with spot prices in the East China market around RMB 4,595/tonne.
Market outlook: The prospects for peace talks between the U.S. and Iran remain highly uncertain, fueling market concerns over tensions between the two countries, which will provide support to the market. In the short term, international oil prices are expected to fluctuate upward, and polyester feedstocks still have favorable expectations. However, downstream end-users are purchasing moderately on an as-needed basis, and supply-demand support is limited. Therefore, the polyester bottle chip market is expected to fluctuate steadily with a slight upward bias in line with feedstocks in the short term, with market prices in East China likely to range between RMB 8,200 and 8,650 per tonne.
