Enable the Asia Sports Field Polyamide Innovation and Application Center
On April 22, Evonik held the opening ceremony of the “Evonik Asia Innovation & Application Center for Polyamide in Sports Applications” at the ChinaPlas exhibition. The center offers comprehensive testing and evaluation capabilities for both rigid materials (PA12) and soft materials (PA12-based thermoplastic elastomers), covering international standards such as ISO and ASTM, as well as internal standards of brand owners. Additionally, the center features pilot-scale plastic processing capabilities, enabling the production of samples including 3D-printed parts, injection-molded test bars, injection-molded components, and films—supporting customers in early-stage validation and rapid iteration.

Long-chain polyamides can be applied in scenarios such as athletic footwear, performance apparel, sports equipment, and specialized protective gear, and are processed via techniques including injection molding, 3D printing, supercritical foaming, extrusion, and spinning to produce critical components and core structural parts, supporting product lightweighting, durability, comfort, and overall performance. Representative global long-chain polyamide grades include PA11, PA12, PA610, PA1010, and PA1212.
In November 2025, Evonik’s High Performance Polymers business line successfully commenced trial production of the Polyamide No. 2 reactor project in Shanghai. This project focuses on expanding domestic production capacity for a range of high-performance materials, including AABB-type polyamides and polyether block amide (PEBA) elastomers.Double Evonik's long-chain polyamide capacity in Asia.
Additionally, Evonik also offers transparent nylon and bio-based nylon product lines.
Regarding transparent nylon, the TROGAMID® CX series (PA PACM12) is synthesized from the cyclic aliphatic diamine PACM and dodecanedioic acid, offering 92% light transmittance and superior scratch resistance compared to PC; the TROGAMID® T series (PA TMDT), the first commercially available transparent nylon (introduced in 1960), contains aromatic rings and exhibits high-temperature resistance but has been discontinued.
In bio-based nylons, the product portfolio primarily includes PA12, PA610, PA1010, and PA1012. The PA monomers are derived from castor oil, with the core technology involving the cracking of castor oil to produce sebacic acid, which is then polycondensed with different diamine monomers to yield differentiated products. Among these, PA1010 is a semi-crystalline material with excellent mechanical properties and chemical stability, making it suitable for applications such as specialty cables and optical fibers.
Additionally, Evonik launched the bio-based polyamide VESTAMID® Terra in 2009, restructured its polyamide business in 2019, and invested approximately €400 million in Germany to build a new integrated PA12 production facility, expanding its transparent polyamide production at the Marl Chemical Park. Its newly introduced transparent PA grade, TROGAMID® myCX eCO, contains 40% bio-based content.
