Arto and Aila Viita-aho founded a carpet weaving factory in 1973. With the same friendly and honest but innovative attitude, VM Carpet's carpets are still produced today. In 1975, Arto Viita-aho decided to buy carpet yarn from Sweden with his friend Harri Kujala. Harri Kujala, being fluent in Swedish, made a phone call that mistakenly connected to a local sheriff. The next call also went awry, reaching a furniture store named Ikea. Although no yarn was found, Harri, being a smooth talker, managed to sell the first large order almost on the spot. We are still on that path, producing VM Carpet's carpets with the same friendly and cheerful yet precise, honest, and innovative attitude. At VM Carpet, we make carpets with great heart. A well-crafted product and a satisfied customer are matters of honor for us. We take pride in our work. We weave a piece of authenticity, humanity, and Finnishness into every carpet. The roots of our family business date back to 1973 when Aila and Arto Viita-aho established the carpet weaving factory in an empty barn next door. Today, the daily operations of the carpet factory involve many different stages, from preparing and dyeing paper yarn to weaving and backing, cutting, and finishing. Carpets are created through collaboration; every step is important, and every worker is needed. Our expertise is complemented by top designers, Finnish textile designers, many of whom have worked with us for a long time. VM Carpet's employees are part of the family. Employment relationships are long-term, with the longest-serving employees having been with us for over 30 years, some even in the second generation. Our heart, which is our production, beats in Lappajärvi. Our family business manufactures carpets according to specifications on the shores of Lake Lappajärvi. We have an office and several production facilities around the lake. Some of our experts serve in the capital region, where we have our own VM Carpet Outlet store in Tammisto, Vantaa.
