The Washable Nappy Company

In 2008 I won Haringey’s Green Business of the Year Award.  Time has moved on, we moved to St Leonards on Sea, East Sussex in 2009 and our twins have now grown up.  I have continued to run The Washable Nappy Company as an ethical, family run business, retailing a range of top quality washable cloth nappies and offering advice and help to new parents. Over the years my brother, mother and cousin have also been involved and our twins Rosa and Arthur in varying capacities,  so this really is a family business!   I work with various London Councils and Real Nappies for London promoting cloth nappies and am now a member of the Nappy Alliance.  I attend various Baby and Toddler shows around the country.   My husband attends all of the Baby Shows with me serving customers and supporting me. Everyone has had a tough time recently, with covid and rocketing prices,  I love my work and feel very privileged to still be up and running.  My business MO is still – to offer washable nappies to suit every customer’s needs, and every budget. I take great pride in my aftersales service. Combined with using recycled packaging (or reusing packaging from family and friends), I know that, as well as saving money, the washable nappies I sell will make a small but important contribution to saving the environment. Like my motto says: ‘nappies needn’t cost us the Earth’!
I started the washable nappy company in 2006 in North London, where we lived at the time. We’d just had twins and were so alarmed by the number of disposable nappies we were throwing away that we thought there must be a better way! We discovered there’d been a revolution in the design of washable nappies since the days of terries. But at that point there was so little information out there, so, together with my husband, I set up the Washable Nappy Company with the aim of selling a range of cloth nappies to suit every budget plus providing all the advice and know-how customers would need to use washable nappies successfully.
