It all started in 1972, when Mr Bhagwat Patil, a veteran mechanical engineer, incorporated Satpuda Engineering Industries in Mumbai to manufacture automobile components for automakers like Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. With his fine business management skills, he established Satpuda as a reputable and competent company for developing and manufacturing complex and critical automobile components. The name Satpuda is inspired by the Satpuda mountain range in central India, known for its monumental size, strength and balanced ecosystem. Mr Bhagwat got inspired by the qualities of this mountain range as it aptly symbolises our strength in engineering and balance in our business environment. He was also inspired by INS Satpuda (F48), a first built in India Shivalik class frigate of the Indian Navy, which symbolises the spirit of Make In India. In 1994, Satpuda expanded its operations by setting up a new plant in Nashik, Maharashtra and Satpuda Engineering Industries was rechristened as Satpuda Engineering Pvt. Ltd. Bhagwat Patil's son, Mr Satish Patil, a talented mechanical engineer from IIT Kharagpur, joined Satpuda with a vision to take Satpuda to new heights. He observed the market need for a high-quality hospital furniture range at an affordable price. With his passion for product design and development, he designed and developed a hospital furniture range and gave a new direction to Satpuda. As Satpuda's presence grew as a quality hospital furniture manufacturer, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. approached Satpuda with a project to develop an ambulance stretcher for their Bolero Ambulance. Satpuda was the single-source supplier of ambulance stretchers for Mahindra's Bolero Ambulance for the next ten years. In 2014, Satish Patil's sons, Kedar Patil (B-tech in Production Engineering from VJTI, Mumbai & MBA in Finance) & Shreyas Patil (B.E. in Production Engineering), joined Satpuda with the core purpose of creating a difference in the lives of people by simplifying and upgrading their lives. They observed that the Indian market was flooded with Chinese stretchers that were flimsily built, had a short life, were difficult to repair, and did not comply with the AIS-125 standards set by the Indian government for ambulance stretchers. There was no Indian manufacturer of ambulance stretchers who could provide an import substitution for Chinese stretchers. Shreyas immediately spotted this need in the market and designed an AIS-125 certified ambulance stretcher which served as an import substitute for Chinese stretchers. With these newly developed AIS-125 certified stretcher models, Satpuda started establishing its footprint in the Indian ambulance stretchers' market by supplying stretchers to all major ambulance manufacturers (OEMs) and Ambulance bodybuilders all over India. This marked the start of Satpuda's brand journey in India. Under the leadership of Kedar and Shreyas, Satpuda continuously strives to challenge the industry's status quo with innovative ideas to address the problems that people have got accustomed to and have accepted them as a way of living for years.
