Respighi Drums

Respighi handcrafted drums are not "like" the ones you want. They are exactly "the ones" you want. Because they reflect your choices: from the composition of the set, to the measurements, to the timbre. No industrial instrument can come close to you and truly be yours like the instrument you wanted and saw being born. Thought out and built to perform at their best, our sets are jewels of craftsmanship made without compromise. Their mission is to give you the pleasure of returning to sit behind them each time, to grip the sticks and unleash your creativity. On top of all this, it adds up to a unique look: your instrument will simply be inimitable. Not even we could ever make one the same. The Respighi handcrafted drums and snares are instruments that arise from a careful design choice and are the result of studies. Their construction is unique. A handmade drum or snare for you is a unique instrument, like a high-tailored suit. And they arise from a teamwork effort: your needs, your taste, our experience. Solid woods, horizontal stave construction, natural finishes (or not, but the woods we use demand to be seen!): everything in a Respighi instrument reflects our vocation for quality. The snare, in a drum set, is a bit like the first violin in an orchestra or like the soloist in a choir: it is the snare that is entrusted with the hardest, most delicate, and technically complex parts. They must be able to express power, precision, and reliability: they must also be sensitive, to be able to play softly or loudly and respond equally. It is the balance between these elements that characterizes Respighi snares, achieved through the particular construction technique employed that gives them their special timbre, the careful processing of the edges, and the precision in defining the snare bed, to make the snare wire resonate correctly. Because I chose to build my drums with a complex technique that requires time and skill and that no one adopts because it is not economical and difficult to manage: the “segmented” or horizontal stave construction. A technique that, despite the difficulties to overcome and the time required, allows for achieving timbral results that have convinced me and that find a response in the high appreciation of the musicians who have chosen me. Because the experience born from the crafting of string instruments has allowed me to gain a deep understanding of woods, their qualities, how to choose, work them, and how to pair them: a luxury that no industrial drum can afford. Because I have grown through collaboration with great musicians who have explained their needs to me. Because even if I won the lottery, I would continue to build drums, snares, and tambourines (perhaps giving them away!): it is what I have chosen to do in life and what I have done best so far. Many are the artists who have already decided to trust the drums, snares, and tambourines produced by Respighi. They are artists who come from different worlds and play different musical genres, and this makes us proud. Their suggestions have guided us and allowed us to grow: we are grateful to them for choosing us and for playing our instruments today.
