The wear resistance of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) sheets is the highest among plastics and exceeds that of certain metals. Compared to other engineering plastics, the abrasion index of UHMWPE sheets is only 1/5 that of PA66 and 1/10 that of HEPE and PVC; compared to metals, it is 1/7 that of carbon steel and 1/27 that of brass. Such high wear resistance makes it difficult to measure its abrasion level using standard plastic wear testing methods, which is why a specialized sand abrasion testing device has been designed.
The mechanical properties of UHMWPE sheets exceed those of standard high-density polyethylene. They exhibit outstanding impact resistance, stress crack resistance, high-temperature creep resistance, low friction coefficient, self-lubrication, excellent chemical corrosion resistance, fatigue resistance, noise damping, and nuclear radiation resistance. The operating temperature is 100-110℃. They have good cold resistance and can be used at -269℃. The density is 0.985g/cm3, with a molecular weight of 2 million, a tensile strength at break of 40MPa, a tensile elongation at break of 350%, a bending elastic modulus of 600MPa, and an unbreakable notched impact on the cantilever beam. The wear amount (MPC method) is 20mm.
UHMWPE sheets can replace materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, and bronze in industries such as textiles, papermaking, food machinery, transportation, medicine, coal mining, and chemical engineering.
