Basic Introduction The embedded rubber waterstop is a product mainly used for water stopping in internal concrete structures at deformation joints, expansion joints, etc. It has the ability to adapt to the expansion and deformation of concrete through the elasticity of rubber materials and its structural form. This product utilizes the high elasticity and compressibility of rubber to create elastic deformation under various loads, effectively preventing water leakage and seepage in building components while also providing shock absorption and cushioning, thereby ensuring the service life of engineering buildings. Jointing Methods There are two methods for joining embedded rubber waterstops: one is using adhesive for cold joints, and the other is using hot vulcanization molds for hot joints. Below are the descriptions of the two jointing methods: The adhesive cold joint method uses special cold joint adhesive for rubber waterstops. The joint surfaces are smoothed with a grinder for 5 to 10 cm, adhesive is applied, and compressed to ensure a good bond. This method has the advantages of high strength, quick curing, convenience, and saves time and effort, meeting general engineering quality requirements. On-site hot vulcanization jointing uses heat vulcanization molds and raw rubber sheets that match the waterstop for on-site thermal curing. Though the construction difficulty is higher, the jointing effect is ideal and suitable for projects with strict quality requirements. 3. Classification Embedded rubber waterstops can be classified into two types based on their structural form: CB type waterstop and CP type waterstop. The CB type waterstop refers to embedded waterstops with holes in the middle and can be divided into CB type rubber waterstop and CB type plastic waterstop. It is mainly used for expansion joints, settlement joints, and seismic joints in various concrete structures, featuring tight anchoring with concrete, water sealing, and the ability to adapt to deformation joint expansions and contractions. The CP type waterstop refers to embedded waterstops without holes in the middle and can be divided into CP type rubber waterstop and CP type plastic waterstop. It is mainly used for construction joints, fully contracted joints, partially contracted joints, and expansion joints in various concrete structures with minimal deformation, characterized by tight anchoring with concrete, water sealing, and elastic stretching deformation. 4. Selection Standards For the design and selection standards of this type of rubber waterstop: during the engineering design and construction selection process, the width and thickness of the CB type embedded rubber waterstop should be determined according to the following conditions: 1. When water pressure is less than 4m and horizontal and vertical deformation does not exceed 10mm, the width of the CB type embedded rubber waterstop should not be less than 200mm and the thickness should not be less than 5mm; 2. When water pressure is 4-8m and horizontal and vertical deformation does not exceed 30mm, the width should not be less than 300mm and the thickness should not be less than 6mm; 3. When water pressure exceeds 8m and horizontal and vertical deformation exceeds 30mm, the width should not be less than 350mm and the thickness should not be less than 8mm; 4. When water pressure does not exceed 8m and horizontal deformation does not exceed 20mm, with no vertical deformation, the width should not be less than 200mm and the thickness should not be less than 5mm. In addition, when the structural cross-section size exceeds 500mm, the width of the CB type embedded rubber waterstop should not be less than 300mm. When the CB type waterstop is bent, the turning radius should not be less than 300mm. The product standard for embedded rubber waterstops follows the waterstop standard GB/T 8173.2—2000, utilizing the high elasticity and compressibility of rubber to create elastic deformation under various loads. The economical embedded rubber waterstop effectively prevents water leakage and seepage in building components while providing shock absorption and cushioning, ensuring the service life of engineering buildings. This product is mainly used in deformation joints that must be set during concrete pouring, such as in ditches, tunnel outlets, water-retaining dams, and water delivery flumes. 5. Installation Precautions The embedded rubber waterstop is partially or completely buried into the concrete during the concrete pouring process. After the previous segment of concrete pouring is completed, the construction joint interface hardens and dries, and any surface residue should be cleared. Before burying the concrete, ensure that the waterstop is kept flat at the interface, and the joint sections are bonded tightly. The waterstop joints must be well bonded, and if site conditions allow, the hot vulcanization connection method can be adopted. "Lapping" with no treatment is not permitted. The concrete should be adequately compacted and vibrated with appropriate force to position the waterstop properly, ensuring good bonding with the concrete to avoid affecting the waterstop effect.
