Spirax Sarco BSA1T Stop Valve Overview
The BSA1T series corrugated seal stop valve from Spirax Sarco features a unique corrugated seal design that completely eliminates the issue of stem packing seal leakage, meeting stringent leakage class requirements. The BSA1T series includes a throttling valve core and dual corrugated seals, ensuring a longer service life...
The zero-leakage characteristics of the BSA1T stop valve enhance equipment safety. It saves a significant amount of energy, reduces maintenance costs, and provides a clean and safe working environment for industrial applications.
The BSA1T corrugated seal stop valve is available in sizes ranging from DN15 to DN250 and can be provided in various materials, including cast iron for the BSA1T, ductile iron for the BSA2T, and cast steel for the BSA3T stop valves. Connection standards include flange, threaded, and socket welding, with pressure ratings up to PN40, ANSI 300, and CLASS 800. The maximum working temperature can reach 425°C, making it suitable for high-temperature systems. This versatility allows one valve to meet various industrial application requirements while ensuring long service life, maintenance-free operation, and durability.
The Spirax Sarco BSA1T stop valve is constructed with a fully stainless steel body and bonnet, making it suitable for applications where the fluid and environment are corrosive.

Spirax Sarco stop valves, Spirax Sarco steam-specific stop valves, linear motion type introduction
Because stop valves are often used to shut off the flow of fluid into a certain area, they are critical in fluid systems. However, they are sometimes also used for manual control of fluid flow. The European standard EN 736-1:1995 clarifies the distinctions between inlet corrugated stop valves, control valves, and regulating valves:
Stop valve - a valve designed for fully open or fully closed positions.
Regulating valve - a valve designed to be in any position between fully open and fully closed.
Control valve - a device driven by external forces used in process control systems to change fluid flow rates.
Stop valves can be used in various situations that require on/off control:
Changing the flow direction of process media.
Shutting off fluid for:
Maintenance of equipment.
Removal of equipment.
Shutdown of equipment.
Various types and designs of stop valves can meet the needs of different applications and working conditions, based on the movement mode during the closing operation.
Typically, valves can be divided into two categories (see Table 12.1.1).
Linear motion valves - the closing element moves in a straight line. This category includes gate valves, ball valves, diaphragm valves, and throttling valves, which will be further elaborated in this section.
Rotary valves - the closing element moves around an axis that is perpendicular to the direction of the fluid. Butterfly valves and ball valves are two important types of rotary valves in steam systems, which will be further elaborated in Section 12.2. Table 12.1.1 Basic modes of valve closing element movement.
Spirax Sarco Linear Motion Valves
Linear motion valves have evolved from the sluice gate method used to control the flow of canal water, and numerous types of valves have since been developed for fluid control. Although linear motion valves are characterized by the closing element moving in a straight line, the fluid flow direction may be perpendicular to the movement of the closing element (as in gate valves) or in the same direction, as in ball valves. The main feature of linear motion valves is that the closing element tightly seals against the valve stem.
