The basic components of pultruded FRP profiles are resin and glass fiber (including cloth, felt, etc.). It is a composite material formed by reinforcing materials (including glass fiber, carbon fiber, organic fiber, and other metal and non-metal fibers) as reinforcing materials, resin (mainly epoxy resin, polyester resin, phenolic resin) as binder, and other auxiliary materials (mainly additives: release agent, curing agent, catalyst, mold sealing agent, UV light stabilizer, cleaning water, gel coat, etc.). It has a series of excellent properties such as high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, high strength, low specific gravity, low moisture absorption, low elongation, and good insulation.

2Features and Performance

1. Good dimensional stability
Thermosetting resin matrix undergoes cross-linking under heat during processing to form a three-dimensional network structure. The products have good dimensional stability under normal conditions, and the post-shrinkage after molding is also small. The shape and size of the products change very little under long-term continuous load, that is, they have low creep. The creep performance depends on factors such as load size, temperature, and loading time. Under fixed load and temperature conditions, the creep of thermosetting plastics after long-term loading is much smaller than that of thermoplastics.
2. Excellent heat resistance and high temperature resistance
Thermosetting resin-based composite materials cannot soften after curing, and their heat resistance is quite stable. When tested with a load of 1.86MPa, the heat distortion temperature is generally between 150 and 260°C. Fiber-reinforced thermosetting plastics are excellent insulating materials, with a thermal conductivity generally ranging from 0.35 to 0.47W/(m.K), which is only 1/100 to 1/1000 of metals, and can be used as good thermal insulation materials and instant high-temperature resistant materials. The heat distortion temperature of the material can reach 350°C and can be used as common temperature and high-temperature structural materials. Glass fiber/phenolic resin is an excellent insulating material for rockets and engines.
3. Good electrical performance
Composite materials are excellent electrical insulating materials. Products made with mica as filler have even better electrical performance and can be used to manufacture special components with arc resistance, voltage resistance, and superior inductive electric properties. Due to the excellent electrical performance of composite materials, the products do not suffer from electrochemical corrosion or stray current corrosion, and can be widely used to manufacture insulation components for instruments, motors, and electrical appliances, to improve the reliability of electrical equipment and extend its service life. In addition, products have good dielectric properties and microwave permeability under high frequency conditions, and have been used to manufacture various high-frequency insulation products such as radar covers.
4. Excellent corrosion resistance
Resin-based composite materials have a different electrochemical corrosion mechanism from ordinary steel. They are non-conductive and do not dissolve ions in electrolyte solutions, thus they have good chemical stability in the atmosphere, water, and general concentrations of acids, alkalis, salts, etc., especially in non-oxidizing strong acids and a wide range of pH values. Therefore, they are widely used to manufacture corrosion-resistant products, to deal with corrosion by certain media that stainless steel cannot handle (such as carbon dioxide, dilute, sodium hypochlorite, sulfur dioxide, etc.), and have played a good role.
5. Excellent surface characteristics of pultruded FRP profiles
When composite materials come into contact with chemical media, there is generally little corrosion on the surface and little scaling, so they are commonly used to manufacture fluid pipelines. The internal resistance of the pipeline is very low, the friction coefficient is low, and a lot of power is saved. Since composite materials generally do not generate metal ion pollution in the medium as easily as metals, this is also the reason why composite materials are widely used in the food and pharmaceutical industries. In addition, composite materials have a very high limit value of friction (PV). Under water lubrication conditions, the friction coefficient is very low, about 0.01 to 0.03, making it the preferred material for wear-resistant products.
The above superior properties of pultruded composite materials are widely used in mechanical structural parts, insulation parts, high-frequency stress parts, and other functional structural components.
