PEEK is a new type of semi-crystalline aromatic thermoplastic engineering plastic. It belongs to high-temperature resistant thermoplastics, with a high glass transition temperature (143℃) and melting point (334℃), and a load-bearing thermal deformation temperature of up to 316℃ (for grades reinforced with 30% glass fiber or carbon fiber). It can be used for long periods at 250℃, and compared to other high-temperature plastics such as PI, PPS, PTFE, and PPO, its upper usage temperature limit is nearly 50℃ higher. PEEK resin not only has superior heat resistance compared to other high-temperature plastics, but also possesses high strength, high modulus, high fracture toughness, and excellent dimensional stability. PEEK resin maintains high strength at elevated temperatures, with a bending strength of about 24 MPa at 200℃, and bending and compressive strengths still at 12-13 MPa at 250℃. PEEK resin has high rigidity, good dimensional stability, and a low coefficient of thermal expansion, which is very close to that of aluminum materials. It exhibits excellent chemical resistance, being only soluble or destructible in concentrated chemicals; its corrosion resistance is similar to that of nickel steel. Additionally, it has inherent flame retardancy, releasing little smoke and toxic gases under flame conditions, and possesses strong radiation resistance. PEEK resin has good toughness and outstanding fatigue resistance to alternating stress, comparable to that of alloy materials. PEEK resin features outstanding tribological properties, with excellent resistance to sliding wear and fretting wear, particularly maintaining high wear resistance and low friction coefficients at 250℃. PEEK resin is easy to extrude and injection mold, demonstrating excellent processing performance and high molding efficiency. Moreover, PEEK also has excellent self-lubricating properties, ease of processing, stable insulation, and hydrolysis resistance, making it widely applicable in aerospace, automotive manufacturing, electronics, medical, and food processing industries. PEEK has excellent applications. PEEK resin has been used in the aerospace sector for a long time, replacing aluminum and other metal materials to manufacture various aircraft components. In the automotive industry, due to PEEK resin's good wear resistance and mechanical properties, it is used as a raw material for manufacturing engine covers, and various components such as bearings, gaskets, seals, and clutch gear rings made from it are widely adopted in automotive transmission, braking, and air conditioning systems. PEEK is used to manufacture pipes, valves, and pumps for transporting ultra-pure water. In the semiconductor industry, it is commonly used to produce wafer carriers, electronic insulating membranes, and various connector components. As a semi-crystalline engineering plastic, PEEK is insoluble in almost all solvents except for concentrated ones, making it commonly used for manufacturing compressor valve plates, piston rings, seals, and various chemical pump bodies and valve components.
