Xpeng P7+ To Launch In Europe In April Priced From €43,600 Targeting VW ID.7
Xpeng's latest electric sedan, the P7+, was officially launched in the European market this April and has begun localized production at Magna Steyr's plant in Graz, Austria. The model explicitly targets the Volkswagen ID.7 as a competitor, aiming to enter the European mid-size pure electric sedan market with a lower starting price and higher DC fast charging power.
P7+ was launched in its European version earlier this month at the Brussels International Motor Show. Its exterior features a low-drag, streamlined coupe design, placing it in the same segment as the ID.7, which emphasizes range and high-power fast charging. The car has previously been sold in the Chinese market. Its entry into Europe involves not only a change in badging but also adjustments to configurations and the manufacturing system to comply with local regulations and meet user needs.
In the German market, the entry-level P7+ starts at €43,600, approximately €10,500 lower than the entry-level ID.7's price of €54,105. However, the entry-level P7+ is equipped with a 62 kWh battery pack, offering a WLTP range of 455 km, while the entry-level ID.7 features a 77 kWh battery with a WLTP range of 619 km. For those requiring more range, the long-range version of the P7+ is priced at €49,600, featuring a 75 kWh battery and a WLTP range of 530 km; meanwhile, the top-tier ID.7 Pro S is equipped with an 86 kWh battery, reaching a WLTP range of 708 km.
In terms of charging performance, the entry-level P7+ has a maximum DC fast charging power of 350 kW, while the long-range version reaches 446 kW; the ID.7 series supports a maximum of 200 kW. Sven De Smet, head of European brand and marketing at Xpeng Motors, told Automotive News: "We believe that charging is one of the pain points for users. Larger capacity batteries are heavier and consume more energy, which in turn increases the frequency of charging." Xpeng also pointed out that the P7+ uses a lighter battery pack, which helps improve the vehicle's handling responsiveness and driving dynamics, catering to European users' preference for driving quality.
In 2025, the Volkswagen ID.7 sold 76,368 units in Europe, ranking seventh in local pure electric vehicle sales, approximately 10,000 units behind the Tesla Model 3. As a new entrant, the P7+ will face competition from established products including the ID.7.
Volkswagen and XPENG maintain a dual partnership in both capital and technology. In 2023, Volkswagen invested $700 million in XPENG, acquiring a 5% stake. The two parties are co-developing multiple new models for the Chinese market based on XPENG's Edward electrical/electronic architecture. At least one of these models will be equipped with XPENG's self-developed Turing chip and VLA 2.0 software system. Volkswagen also plans to progressively integrate these technological modules into its future mass-produced models.
