Volvo EX30 Recalled in Indonesia, Involving About 21 2024 Electric Vehicles
Volvo Car Indonesia recently announced a recall affecting approximately 21 units of certain 2024-model-year EX30 all-electric SUVs, representing less than a quarter of the model's current total registrations in Indonesia (around 85 units). This action is part of a global recall involving over 40,000 EX30 vehicles due to a manufacturing defect in the battery modules, which could cause the high-voltage battery to overheat and pose a fire risk. The recall covers both the EX30 Single Motor Extended Range and EX30 Twin Motor Performance variants.
According to Haryanto Djayaputra, General Manager of Volvo Car Indonesia, revealed in Jakarta on the evening of March 5, the affected vehicles are all from early 2024 production batches. The company has already sent notification letters to relevant vehicle owners, requesting them to bring their vehicles to authorized dealers for free inspection and repair. Haryanto stated that spare parts preparation is being carried out by Volvo’s parts division, and repair arrangements are expected to be completed shortly.

Ilham Suryo Aldianto, Corporate Planning Assistant Manager of Volvo Car Indonesia, pointed out that the company is investigating the cause of the battery issues and continuously monitoring the situation. He emphasized, "Safety is always our top priority. Volvo is closely monitoring the developments, and the issues with some of the affected vehicles in Indonesia have already started to be addressed. The related work is being carried out in an orderly manner and is under continuous monitoring."
The global recall will be initiated gradually from February to March 2026, with the Indonesian market being part of this response. The Volvo brand, headquartered in Sweden, is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group.
