Cangzhou Dahua Achieves Mass Production of Hundreds of Tons of High-Viscosity Polycarbonate (PC)
On July 27, Cangzhou Dahua achieved a major breakthrough in the field of material research and development, successfully developing and producing hundred-ton-scale high-viscosity polycarbonate (PC) material. Testing shows that all technical indicators of this material have reached international advanced levels, meeting the stringent requirements of high-end fields such as aviation.
This groundbreaking achievement fills the gap in high-viscosity PC products within the Sinochem system and further enriches Cangzhou Dahua’s PC product portfolio. Its advent marks a solid step forward for Cangzhou Dahua in the field of high-end PC manufacturing, adding an important asset to the company’s competitiveness in the high-end materials market.
Currently, the domestic PC (polycarbonate) production structure exhibits a clear contradiction. There is an oversupply of medium- and low-end general-purpose PC, resulting in intense market competition; however, due to high technical barriers, domestic supply of high-viscosity PC is insufficient, while market demand remains strong. Compared with general-purpose PC, the high-viscosity PC developed by Cangzhou Dahua demonstrates significantly superior performance. Its mechanical properties and fatigue resistance are more outstanding, while its flowability is lower. These characteristics give it a distinct advantage in applications with extremely stringent performance requirements, such as aerospace, architectural decoration, and the automotive industry.
According to the Color Masterbatch Industry Network, this is not the first time Cangzhou Dahua has achieved results in PC material research and development. As early as November 2024, Cangzhou Dahua successfully completed a trial production of copolymerized PC with 20% silicon content in a single feed. This achievement has consolidated Cangzhou Dahua’s position as the first and only domestic enterprise to produce silicon copolymerized PC granules using a tubular continuous process, filling a gap in the relevant domestic field. The 20% silicon content copolymerized PC was independently developed by Cangzhou Dahua and features outstanding low-temperature impact resistance and synergistic flame-retardant properties, offering broad application prospects in fields such as new energy, 5G base stations, electronic components, and medical devices.
From the perspective of material properties, high-viscosity PC differs significantly from regular PC. High-viscosity PC has lower fluidity, which requires higher temperatures and pressures during processing to facilitate material flow. However, this very characteristic also endows it with better mechanical properties and fatigue resistance. In practical applications, high-viscosity PC is often used in the manufacture of components that demand extremely high material performance, such as certain parts of aircraft engines and key safety components in automobiles. Regular PC, on the other hand, is more commonly used in fields with relatively lower performance requirements, such as typical electronic and electrical housings and everyday plastic products.
Cangzhou Dahua's series of achievements in PC material research and development not only demonstrate the company's strong technical R&D capabilities but also reflect its precise grasp of market trends. Facing the structural contradictions in domestic PC production capacity, Cangzhou Dahua continuously innovates and launches PC products suitable for high-end fields, aiming to stand out in fierce market competition and contribute to the advancement of China's PC material industry towards high-end development. In the future, with the gradual mass production and market promotion of high-end products such as high-viscosity PC, Cangzhou Dahua is expected to embrace new development opportunities and write a new chapter in the field of new chemical materials.
