BASF Launches Another High-End TPU Project Focusing on Robotics and New Energy Vehicle Charging Cable

Recently, the thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) production facility in Shanghai, BASF, is now qualified to produce Elastollan® FR TPU, and can supply the full range of flame retardant solutions including Elastollan® FHF and Elastollan® FR specifications.

BASF's Shanghai TPU production facility successfully localized a range of Elastollan® FHF product grades in 2023. The recent official mass production in Shanghai of the upgraded flame-retardant Elastollan® FR products now offers customers material options with enhanced flame-retardant performance, suitable for more demanding application conditions.

Meanwhile, with the localization of FHF and FR product specifications, BASF’s Shanghai TPU plant is now capable of providing the Asia-Pacific market with a comprehensive portfolio of flame-retardant TPU products, enabling customers in three high-growth sectors—including industrial automation, robotics, and new-energy-vehicle charging stations—to meet local regulatory requirements for critical cable applications, and to respond more flexibly and reliably to diverse, specialized local flame-retardancy needs.

Currently, China's industrial automation, intelligent manufacturing, and new energy vehicle industries are experiencing rapid development, leading to an increasing demand for high-end flame-retardant cable materials. The recent upgrade and commissioning of BASF's Shanghai base precisely meet the domestic market demand, providing core material support for the high-quality development of relevant industries.
