Americhem Launches PFAS-Free Thermoplastic Materials for Aircraft Interiors Meeting Stringent FAA Standards
AokaiRecently launched ColorFast SFT5500 to expand the aircraft interior materials product line. This product is a PFAS-free, high-performance thermoplastic material specifically engineered to meet the FAA 14 CFR 25.853 Appendix F, Part IV, 55/55 OSU heat release requirements, while also offering low smoke and low toxicity characteristics.
In the aerospace market, thermoplastic systems that can achieve 55/55 OSU performance while maintaining low smoke and low toxicity, and are free of PFAS, remain very limited. ColorFast SFT5500 is a high-performance thermoplastic material platform launched to meet this need, specifically tailored for injection-molded interior components.

Alternative materials for regulatory review
Aircraft interior thermoplastic materials must meet stringent fire safety standards, while also possessing durability, thermal stability, and processing consistency. As traditional fluoropolymer-based material systems face increasing regulatory scrutiny, manufacturers are re-evaluating their long-term material strategies to reduce non-compliance risks without compromising performance or increasing certification risks.
Matthew Miklos, Vice President of Strategy and Marketing at Omeda, said:
ColorFast SFT5500 reflects Amcor’s dedicated commitment to aerospace materials. We have developed this PFAS-free thermoplastic material platform to meet the stringent 55/55 OSU fire resistance requirement, while delivering low smoke and low toxicity characteristics. It also enhances manufacturers’ stability in product certification, regulatory compliance, and supply chain planning. It represents a forward-looking solution for aircraft interior material selection.
Suitable for sidewalls, seat structures, and more applications
ColorFast SFT5500 is specifically designed for interior thermoplastic systems, suitable for applications such as side walls, seat structures, functional cabin components, power unit enclosures, interior panels, and lavatory systems. This material is compatible with existing injection molding processes, helping manufacturers switch materials without impacting the current certification process.
Americhem has advanced compounding production bases in North America, Europe, and Asia, collaborating with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and tier-one suppliers to provide globally consistent quality engineered compounds for regulated applications.
