Amcor's PCR Plastic Industrial Container Wins UN Certification

Plastmatch Global Digest 2026-03-17 14:29:11

Amcor's 5.5-liter and 5.8-liter industrial containers produced at its Pamplona, Spain facility have received UN certification, and the product contains 50% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic.

Prevent hazardous material leakage and contact

UN-certified packaging effectively prevents leakage and contact with hazardous materials, safeguarding personnel, property, and the environment. This container, paired with a certified 40-micron-thick low-density polyethylene (LDPE) inner bag, delivers a high-quality, safe storage and transportation solution for solid and powdered hazardous materials across industries including chemicals, medical waste, and automotive. Additionally, this product supports companies in achieving their sustainability goals and commitments. Amcor anticipates strong demand for such containers in the swimming pool chemicals and water treatment chemicals sectors.

In addition to meeting consumers’ and customers’ demand for more sustainable packaging solutions, the feature of containing 50% recycled plastic will also help enterprises comply with current and upcoming packaging regulations in the EU and other countries.

RecyClass certified production bases

The Pamplona plant, like other Amcor facilities in Besançon and La Genête in France and Lublin in Poland, has obtained RecyClass certification (European packaging recyclability certification). This enables Amcor to use the RecyClass label on non-food packaging, allowing customers to verify the recyclability of the products and the proportion of recycled content used.

Ignacio Igea, Sales Director for Industrial Packaging at Amcor Rigid Packaging Solutions in Spain, Portugal, and Italy, said: "Receiving this UN certification is a significant breakthrough, and we believe it will benefit many companies across Europe. When adopting more sustainable packaging solutions, ensuring the overall performance of the containers is equally important, especially for the packaging of hazardous materials. Our UN-certified container, which contains recycled plastic, still offers excellent safety and reliability, meeting the stringent requirements of the UN certification process."

Amcor SuperLift Extra 5.5 liters and SuperFlex 5.8 liters products both feature a sturdy and protective design, optimizing warehouse space utilization, with low noise during filling line operation; meanwhile, the products are lightweight, making them easy to handle and transport. The products support various surface decoration processes, providing an excellent solution for brand display. The SuperFlex container is also available with a child-resistant cap, preventing children under 51 months from opening, while being easy for adults (including the elderly) to use.
