World's First! Zhejiang's 10,000-Ton Bio-Based 5-HMF Production Line to Fully Commence Operations
After approximately 400 days of efficient construction, on the morning of December 29, with the completion of the final concrete pouring, the main structure of Zhejiang Tangneng Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Tangneng Technology") "10,000-ton 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) Production Construction Project" was officially topped out. This signifies that this world's first 10,000-ton 5-HMF production line project has achieved decisive progress and will fully transition to the equipment installation stage.

Jinhai Tao, chairman of "Tangneng Technology," stated that all production equipment has been fully procured and will start to be installed and commissioned after New Year's Day, with the project expected to enter the trial production phase in June 2026. At that time, "Tangneng Technology" will become the world's first company to achieve large-scale production of 10,000 tons of 5-HMF. 5-HMF is a core platform compound derived from biomass such as starch, sucrose, and fructose, and can be widely used in fields such as bio-based plastics and fine chemicals, with global market demand exceeding ten million tons. As a national high-tech enterprise, "Tangneng Technology" has long been focused on the research and industrialization of bio-based furan new materials. In April last year, the company was the first to achieve a breakthrough in the pilot production of 1,000 tons of 5-HMF, and in November of the same year, launched the "High-end Bio-based Polyester Full Industry Chain" demonstration project in Daishan, laying a solid technical and industrial foundation for the construction of the current 10,000-ton production line.
It is understood that this project is the first industrialization project successfully incubated by the Daishan New Materials Research and Experimentation Base. "From pilot testing to large-scale production, Daishan's pilot base has opened up a crucial link for us from technological research and development to industrial implementation," Jin Haitao remarked.
