Tesla FSD Subscriptions Surpass One Million, One-Time Purchase Option Ends February 14

Gasgoo 2026-02-05 09:25:00

During its fourth-quarter 2025 earnings call, Tesla announced that its Full Self-Driving (FSD) subscription user base has surpassed 1 million, a 38% increase compared to the same period in 2024. This data, confirmed around February 5, 2026, marks the first time the FSD subscription service has reached a seven-figure milestone since its complete transition to a subscription-only model.

According to Tesla's disclosure, its FSD active subscriber base was approximately 800,000 in 2024, up from 600,000 in 2023, 500,000 in 2022, and 400,000 in 2021, showing a continuous upward trend. The company will officially cease the one-time purchase option for FSD software starting February 14, 2026, offering only monthly subscription services thereafter. This decision was announced by CEO Elon Musk on the social platform X in mid-January 2026.

The current FSD (Full Self-Driving) subscription fee is $99 per month. Musk stated that this price will be increased, but did not specify the timing or magnitude of the increase. The company said this move aims to optimize FSD sales channels, enhance control over recurring revenue, and prevent users from locking in long-term usage at a lower cost in advance – Musk had previously stated that once FSD achieves full self-driving capability, its potential value could approach $100,000.

This adjustment is also related to a performance target in Musk's latest compensation package: one incentive condition requires Tesla to reach 10 million active FSD subscribers. The current 1 million users represent one-tenth of that goal. The company has not publicly stated the specific strategy for achieving this target, nor has it commented on whether it will launch a feature-lite version of FSD or adjust its pricing model.

In addition to adjustments in the FSD business, there are also updates regarding Elon Musk's affiliated enterprises. The Boring Company recently opened a new Vegas Loop station at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas resort. Located on the basement level (Level V-1) of the resort's south valet area, the station offers passengers free rides to other Loop stations, including the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC), Encore, and Westgate. The Fontainebleau station connects to the Riviera station, situated in the northwest parking lot of the LVCC West Hall, integrating it into the overall Vegas Loop network.

According to information Musk posted on X in early February 2026, SpaceX's twelfth Starship test flight (Starship Flight 12) is planned to take place in approximately six weeks, meaning it could happen as early as March 2026. This mission will be the first to carry a Starship Version 3 vehicle and the new Raptor V3 engines. The image Musk attached shows the Starship upper stage about to separate from the Super Heavy booster, but it did not specify whether this mission would include an attempt to recover the Super Heavy booster.
