Plastipak Opens PET Resin Manufacturing Center In Verbania, Italy
Plastipak Packaging, Inc. (Plymouth, Michigan) has announced the opening of a PET materials center in Verbania, Italy. The facility produces pakPET™ single-pellet solutions, a PET resin containing 30% recycled content, designed to help customers maintain packaging quality, consistency, and manufacturing efficiency.
Italian government officials and Ed Morgan, CEO of Plastipak, attended the opening ceremony on October 14. Plastipak has invested over €25 million in the PET Materials Center, reinforcing its commitment to material innovation and circular economy solutions.
pakPET™ single-pellet solution combines the performance of virgin PET with built-in recycled content in a single, ready-to-use resin. Its monomer-based formulation simplifies processing and supports consistent packaging performance, helping customers integrate recycled content into their existing PET operations.
Pedro Martins, Executive Director and General Manager for Europe, stated: “Customers need solutions that make it easier to incorporate recycled content while delivering the quality and reliability their operations depend on. At our PET Materials Center in Verbania, we combine Plastipak’s material expertise and manufacturing capabilities to help customers advance their packaging goals.”
pakPET™ single-particle solution offers:
- 30% recycled content is built into each individual pellet.
- Consistent packaging performance with direct compatibility for existing PET operations;
- Simplify processing and certification to support manufacturing efficiency.
- Food contact approval for packaging applications; and
- Traceability of post-consumer recycled materials certified under EN 15343.
This resin is suitable for a range of applications, including food and beverage containers, household and personal care packaging, pharmaceutical packaging, and thermoforming.
The PET Materials Center has strengthened Plastipak’s ability to connect recycling expertise with material innovation. By developing ready-to-use resin solutions, Plastipak helps customers make informed packaging decisions and supports a circular economy for recycling and reusing materials.
