Major Milestone: Rohm LiMA Technology MMA Unit Achieves Full-Load Operation!
On June 5, Röhm reached a major milestone at its methyl methacrylate (MMA) plant in Bay City, Texas, USA: its proprietary LiMA technology achieved full-scale industrial operation at full capacity for the first time worldwide. Since the plant was commissioned, its production capacity has been steadily ramping up, and in recent months it has successfully reached full output and maintained full-capacity operation. To celebrate this achievement, Röhm invited customers, partners, and local officials to gather at the Bay City plant and tour the operating site, witnessing the LiMA technology up close.

The Beicheng plant marks a major advance in MMA production technology. As an indispensable basic raw material for the automotive, manufacturing, construction, electronics, and medical sectors, MMA has, for the first time at this North American plant, been industrially produced via the C2 route, strongly enhancing the regional supply chain and local manufacturing capabilities.
At the event, Rohm CEO Hans Bohnen pointed out that the Beicheng factory is the best proof of the company’s strategy of staying technology-driven and making long-term investments.
Dr. Han Boen stated: “Röhm is the only company in the world with production of MMA and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) in all three key regions of Asia, Europe, and North America. We have unique advantages and remain committed to supporting customers worldwide with outstanding technology, reliable quality, and localized services.”
In terms of supply security, the Baytown plant provides more reliable assurance for North American customers by using raw materials with stable sources, such as ethylene and natural gas, and by locating production facilities close to end markets.
ROM Americas President Jack Chenault stated, “This reflects our long-term commitment to local customers. Bay City’s strategic location enables us to efficiently serve markets across North America and around the world.” The plant currently employs approximately 90 people and places safety at the forefront of its operations. Chenault emphasized, “Safety is always our top priority.”
The Bay City plant has an annual MMA production capacity of 250,000 tonnes and is designed to maximize output while minimizing raw material consumption. Compared with traditional MMA production processes, LiMA technology can reduce energy and water consumption and cut carbon dioxide emissions by up to 42%.
Project Milestones Review
On March 24, 2025, the ROHM Group announced the successful start-up of a large-scale industrial methyl methacrylate (MMA) plant built using its proprietary C2-route LiMA production technology.
