Lindex Partners With BASF To Be The First To Apply T2T Waste Textile Recycling Nylon 6 In The Underwear Sector

NTMT New Textile Materials 2026-05-29 15:18:00

Lindex has entered into a partnership with BASF’s loopamid to accelerate textile-to-textile recycling and drive the fashion industry’s transition toward more circular material solutions. Together, the two parties will introduce loopamid into the lingerie segment.

For Lindex, the use of loopamid is based on its long-term commitment to increasing the use of recycled materials and reducing dependency on virgin raw materials. Building on progress made in the field of textile-to-textile regenerated cellulose fibers, Lindex is now promoting innovation in polyamide materials within the lingerie category.

Lindex Chief Sustainability Officer Anna-Karin Dahlberg said: “As an important player in the lingerie sector, we have a clear responsibility and also the opportunity to drive transformation in this category. Polyamide is an important material category for Lindex, and our scale enables us to make a real impact. With loopamid, we are moving from vision to action, advancing more circular solutions while supporting long-term sustainable growth and reducing the use of virgin materials. Progress at this level requires new technologies and close collaboration across the entire value chain, and BASF plays a key role in driving this development.”

In addition to the lingerie sector, BASF has previously collaborated with Inditex to launch the first jacket made entirely from loopamid. Developed by BASF, loopamid is a regenerated polyamide 6 made entirely from textile waste, such as post-industrial and post-consumer waste. This technology can recycle polyamide materials that are typically difficult to process, including blended fabrics, while maintaining material quality comparable to virgin polyamide 6, and supports multiple recycling cycles.

ZARA has made this material into loopamid jackets, which are currently sold worldwide. Following the "recycled design" approach, all components, including fabrics, buttons, fillings, hooks, and zippers, are made from loopamid.

Inditex has collaborated with other leading companies in the apparel manufacturing industry to seamlessly integrate loopamid into a variety of garment components, including fabrics, zippers, buttons, filling materials, hook-and-loop fasteners, and sewing thread. ModaRe, a recycling project operated by the charity organization Caritas, sorts and supplies raw materials from discarded textiles. The Italian company RadiciGroup has been dedicated to converting loopamid polymer into yarns with a range of different properties. The multinational Japanese fastener company YKK and the multinational Velcro company have also played important roles in using loopamid polymer to produce plastic components for zippers, snap fasteners, and hook-and-loop fasteners. Spain’s Uniter, Italy’s Tessitura Vignetta, and Germany’s Freudenberg and Gütermann have also participated in the project, using loopamid to develop other garment components such as inner labels, padding materials, and sewing thread.

Dag Wiebelhaus, Head of Innovation for BASF’s Monomers Division and project lead for loopamid, said: “With loopamid, our goal is to fully achieve a closed-loop cycle for polyamide textiles. Our collaboration with Lindex enables us to actively shape the transition toward a more circular fashion industry.”

The first batch of underwear products made from loopamid is scheduled to launch in early 2027 as part of Lindex's selected lingerie collection. The use of loopamid supports Lindex's overall materials goal, which is to have 100% of the materials used be either recycled or sustainably sourced by the end of 2026.

About Loopamid

Through loopamid, BASF has developed an innovative solution aimed at enhancing the circularity of the fashion industry and recycling post-consumer polyamide 6 textile waste. With its ability to process various fabric blends, such as PA6 and elastic fibers, the cutting-edge technology behind loopamid enables textile-to-textile recycling of industrial and post-consumer textile waste. Its fibers and materials can be recycled multiple times, while their material properties are identical to those of traditional virgin polyamide. Loopamid has received Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certification.
