What is polyetherimide (PEI)?

Polyetherimide (PEI) is a class of amorphous, amber-colored, high-performance thermoplastic engineering plastics.

PEI was first developed by General Electric (GE) in the United States in 1972. In 1982, GE took the lead in commercializing PEI by establishing a 5,000-ton production facility and naming the product ULTEM™. In 2007, SABIC completed the acquisition of GE’s plastics division.

SABIC currently has three sites producing ULTEM™ resin.

Shanghai Plastics Research Institute Co., Ltd.
