CHINAPLAS 2026: Promoting Circular Development, BASF Expands the Ultrason® Product Range with a New Biomass Balanced PPSU, Supporting High-Performance Application Needs

Ultrason® P 3010 BMB uses bio-circular feedstock instead of fossil feedstock and is certified for its biomass content.

Balance the method by allocating its input to this grade.

Directly replaceable: Ultrason® P 3010 BMB offers the same product performance, processability, and certification approvals as the standard Ultrason® P 3010.

BASF will make a spectacular appearance at CHINAPLAS 2026 International Plastics Exhibition. We look forward to your visit: Booth No. 7.2C41 (Shanghai National Exhibition Center)

BASF has launched the new Ultrason® P 3010 BMB, expanding its certified biomass balance polyarylethersulfone product range. This product is a polyphenylsulfone (PPSU) with 20% bio-circular feedstock. Ultrason®

P 3010 BMB can help customers in the home appliances, bathroom and water, medical devices, hydrogen production, and electrical and electronic (E&E) industries to increase the proportion of renewable resources used and accelerate the transition to a higher level of circular economy. This new Ultrason® grade enables customers to achieve their sustainability goals without compromising material performance and quality, and without the need for additional equipment investment.

In the initial production phase of Ultrason® P 3010 BMB, part of the fossil-based feedstock is replaced by renewable feedstock derived from organic waste and residual biomass. The input of these biocircular raw materials is allocated to this Ultrason® P grade through the ISCC PLUS(1)-certified mass balance approach. This BMB (biomass-balanced) product is manufactured at the Ludwigshafen site in Germany using 100% green electricity and through a resource-efficient process with continuously optimized emissions. The resulting material is chemically identical to the standard version of Ultrason® P 3010, allowing customers to directly substitute it without requiring re-certification for their applications or adjustments to processing parameters.

Performance as One - Helping Customers Achieve Sustainable Development Goals

Ultrason® is the trademark for the polyethersulfone (Ultrason® E), polysulfone (Ultrason® S), and polyphenylsulfone (Ultrason® P) product lines by BASF. This high-performance thermoplastic polymer can be used to manufacture water filtration membranes, stylish, durable, and safe household and food service items, as well as lightweight components for the automotive and aerospace industries. Due to its excellent performance characteristics, Ultrason® brand products can replace thermosetting plastics, metals, and ceramics in many applications.

Certifications implemented according to this certification program have confirmed that the biomass used is sustainable and has been supplied in the required quantity to the production system. It has also been confirmed that the sustainable biomass has been properly accounted for in the corresponding sales products. Each certification is issued based on on-site audits conducted by independent auditors.
