Breaking Foreign Monopoly! First Domestic Automotive Grade MCU Chip DF30 Advances to Mass Production and Vehicle Application
IT Home, April 7: Dongfeng Motor announced today that the DF30—the first domestically developed high-performance automotive-grade MCU chip, spearheaded by Dongfeng Motor—is steadily advancing toward mass production and vehicle integration as the first chip to be adopted in engine ECUs.and has been successfully validated on vehicles such as the Dongfeng Yipai 007, Warrior M817, and Dongfeng Fengshen Haohan。

It is reported that the ECU (Electronic Control Unit) serves as the "central heart" of the engine, capable of processing signals from multiple engine sensors in real time, calculating, and outputting control commands to drive the engine's operation. The MCU (Microcontroller Unit) is the "core chip" of the ECU, acting as the "commander-in-chief's" brain; its computing speed and stability are critical to ensuring vehicle safety and proper operation.
This type of automotive key chip has long relied on imported foreign products. Once the supply chain is restricted, domestic automobiles may face a "chip shortage." The development of the DF30 chip aims to address this "bottleneck" issue. Dongfeng Motor official also stated,Dongfeng vehicles will soon be equipped with a “Chinese chip” that is 100% independently controllable.。
IT Home has learned that the DF30 chip is the first domestically produced high-performance automotive-grade MCU chip to achieve a fully domesticated closed-loop industrial chain. It is based on an independently open-sourced RISC-V multi-core architecture and manufactured using a domestic 40nm automotive-grade process. The chip has completed 295 rigorous tests and is perfectly compatible with the domestically developed AutoSAR automotive software operating system.
Additionally, this domestically developed, fully controllable, high-performance automotive-grade MCU chip was released in November 2024 and completed its first tape-out (trial production) verification around April last year, achieving a fully domestic closed-loop process, with functional safety certification up to ASIL-D.
