BASF Launches Three REDcert² Certified Biomass Balance Building Coating Additives

Plastmatch Global Digest 2026-07-14 16:41:31

Core points

BASF has newly launched three biomass balance additive products—Dispex® AA 4145 MB, Rheovis® PU 1333 MB, and Rheovis® HS 1169 MB—specifically for the architectural coatings sector.
All three additives have passed REDcert² biomass sustainability certification; according to BASF’s Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) accounting methodology, they can significantly reduce the product carbon footprint compared with traditional petroleum-based additives in the same series.
Based on BASF's integrated site (Verbund) biomass balance (BMB) production process, 100% of the fossil raw materials required for product manufacturing are replaced with certified renewable raw materials; the proportion of renewable raw materials is accounted for through a third-party certified quality balance traceability system to the final product.
Product performance is fully consistent with that of traditional petroleum-based additives: Dispex® AA 4145 MB is used for pigment wetting and dispersion; Rheovis® PU 1333 MB and Rheovis® HS 1169 MB are used for precise control of coating rheology and application performance; the products are supplied globally in sync and backed by BASF’s professional technical service.

New Product Introduction

BASF expands its portfolio of biomass-balanced (BMB) additives with the launch of three additives for architectural coatings: Dispex® AA 4145 MB, Rheovis® PU 1333 MB, and Rheovis® HS 1169 MB.

Product Certification and Carbon Footprint Statement

The series of additives has obtained REDcert² certification for sustainable biomass raw materials; according to BASF's Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) calculation method, its carbon emissions are lower than those of traditional additives of the same specification.
Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) Definition: In accordance with ISO 14067:2018, the total amount of all greenhouse gases generated and absorbed during the selected production stages across the product’s entire industrial chain is calculated and expressed in carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) as the unit of measurement.

Technology and Product Performance

Bio-based mass balance additives perform equivalently to traditional petrochemical-based products.
Dispex® AA 4145 MB can optimize pigment wetting and deliver high-quality decorative coatings.
Rheovis® PU 1333 MB and Rheovis® HS 1169 MB can accurately regulate rheological properties and application feel in most coating formulation systems, allowing paint manufacturers to produce low-emission, environmentally friendly coatings without adjusting their existing formulations.

Mass balance process and global supply channels

In BASF’s integrated chemical production facility, the fossil raw materials required for the production of biomass-balanced additives are 100% replaced with third-party compliant renewable raw materials; the share of renewable raw materials is accurately allocated to the final products through a mass balance supply chain system certified by a notarized qualification.
The new product series will be launched in the global market, with full-process technical support provided by BASF's professional technical team.
