Amcor’s Industrial Container With 50% Post-Consumer Recycled Content Receives United Nations Certification

Plastmatch Global Digest 2026-03-13 11:03:28

Recycled materials are gradually being applied to packaging fields with higher requirements, including containers for dangerous goods. Amcor's latest industrial container, which contains 50% post-consumer recycled content (PCR), has received UN certification, reflecting this trend.

This certification confirms that such containers comply with the United Nations’ stringent performance standards for the safe storage and transportation of hazardous materials.

UN-certified packaging is designed to prevent leaks and contact, protecting personnel, property, and the environment. Amcor's range of containers is suitable for solid and powdered hazardous goods in industries such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and automotive. Certified containers help manufacturers achieve their sustainability goals.

Demand for pool chemicals is expected to be strong

Amcor expects strong demand for such containers in the pool chemicals and water treatment products sector.

In addition to meeting customers' demand for more sustainable packaging, the 50% PCR content in the containers can also help businesses comply with current and upcoming packaging regulations in the EU and various countries.

This industrial container is manufactured at the company’s factory in Pamplona, Spain.

The Pamplona plant, along with Amcor's facilities in Besançon and Riolle in France, and Lublin in Poland, have all received RecyClass certification, allowing Amcor to use the RecyClass label on non-food packaging. The certification verifies the recyclability of the products and the use of recycled materials.

Balancing Sustainability and Product Performance

“This UN certification is a significant milestone, and we believe it will benefit numerous businesses across Europe,” said Ignacio Igea, Sales Director for Industrial Business in Spain, Portugal, and Italy at Amcor Rigid Packaging Solutions International.

While adopting more sustainable packaging solutions, it is equally important for enterprises to maintain the overall performance of containers—especially critical for hazardous goods packaging. Our UN-certified containers containing recycled content consistently deliver optimal safety and reliability, meeting the stringent requirements of the UN certification process.

Amcor's 5.5L SuperLift Extra and 5.8L SuperFlex series containers feature a durable design optimized for storage efficiency and reduced filling line noise. Their lightweight construction facilitates easier handling and transportation, while offering multiple surface decoration options to meet brand display requirements.

The SuperFlex series containers can also be equipped with child-resistant caps, which prevent children under 51 months from opening them, while ensuring that adults, including seniors, can use them normally.
