1.PPR Pipes Composition and Connection Technology

PPR pipes are formally known as random copolymer polypropylene pipes, which are currently one of the most commonly used water supply pipes in home decoration projects. The quality control issues of PPR raw materials, PPR pipes are made of (PP and PE) synthesized by the gas phase method random copolymer polypropylene, characterized by PE molecules irregularly linked within PP molecules, with a molecular weight ranging from 300,000 to 800,000. The pipes made from PPR raw materials are also known as random copolymer polypropylene pipes, developed and applied in the late 1980s and early 1990s. With its excellent performance and wide range of applications, it has secured a place in the plastic pipe market and is recognized as a green and environmentally friendly product. However, in recent years, the market operation has revealed that there are quite a few issues concerning the quality of PPR plastic pipes, which have significantly hindered the healthy development of PPR pipes.

Generally, there will be no more water leakage, and the reliability is extremely high. But this does not mean that PPR water pipes are defect-free; their high-temperature resistance and pressure resistance are slightly inferior, and the long-term working temperature should not exceed 70°C; each section has a limited length and cannot be bent during construction. If the pipeline installation distance is long or there are many corners, a large number of joints will be needed during construction; the pipe material is cheap, but the fittings are relatively expensive. Overall, PPR pipes offer a good cost-performance ratio, which is why they are used as materials for water pipe renovation in home decoration.

2.PPR Pipe Installation Recommendations and Pipe Diameter

1: Generally, during the water and electricity renovation, the existing water pipes will be replaced. When home decoration companies and merchants suggest that renovators installPPR pipes, they recommend using hot water pipes throughout, even in areas where cold water flows. Their reasoning is that the technical parameters of hot water pipes are higher than those of cold water pipes, and the price difference is minimal, so hot water pipes are used for all plumbing renovations.

2: The diameter PPR pipe can range from 20mm to 160mm, the main sizes used in home decoration are 20mm (PPR is a 4 point pipe, which is different from galvanized pipes), and 25mm (PPR pipe is a 6 point pipe, which is also different from galvanized pipes) two types, among which 20mm is used more frequently. If the budget allows, we highly recommend using a 25 mm outer diameterPPR pipe, especially for the incoming cold water pipes, because modern households have concentrated living heights, an increasing number of water appliances, and a high usage frequency, which helps to minimize issues of low water pressure and low flow rate.
