Test Objective:
By conducting impact tests on tunnel escape pipelines and steel pipes of similar specifications, the feasibility of using ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene pipes for emergency rescue during highway tunnel collapses is demonstrated.
Test Materials:
1. Q235 spiral seam submerged arc welded steel pipe, with specifications of Φ620×10. Yield strength σ1=215GPa, elastic modulus E1=210MPa; Poisson's ratio ν1=0.25.
2. Sichuan 800 escape pipeline, with specifications of Φ800×30, yield strength σ1=3.7GPa, elastic modulus E1=700MPa; Poisson's ratio ν1=0.42.
Test Requirements and Methods:
After being subjected to impact, the tunnel escape pipeline had stones bounced off with almost no damage, indicating good impact resistance; the steel pipe was flattened and underwent permanent deformation upon impact. The results show that the ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene tunnel escape pipeline has extremely high impact resistance, and external impacts cannot cause it to rupture. Moreover, it has good toughness and the ability to absorb impact energy, absorbing most of the impact energy during the process of being struck by large stones, thus reducing damage to the pipeline. The impact resistance of the steel pipe is inferior to that of the tunnel escape pipeline, and it experiences permanent deformation after being struck by stones, making recovery difficult.
Conclusion:
The 800 escape pipeline was used for the first time to design an emergency rescue passage for highway tunnel construction.
