The main factors generating static electricity at gas stations: Static electricity generated by gasoline tank trucks during oil delivery; static electricity generated by oil storage tanks during unloading; static electricity generated by oil flowing in oil pipelines; static electricity generated when oil flows through filters, pumps, and meters; static electricity generated by the human body of operators.
Gas stations should pay attention to the following points in daily work:
1. Connect the static grounding wire before unloading oil. Both the oil pipeline and the oil storage tank are equipped with static grounding devices. Before unloading oil, the static grounding wire must be connected. It should be clamped to the exposed metal part connected to the car body and the oil tank, ensuring grounding before unloading oil. Otherwise, it is considered illegal operation.
2. Check the grounding resistance value. Gas station lightning protection and static grounding devices should be checked for effectiveness at least once a year before the thunderstorm season. The grounding resistance of oil tanks, station buildings, and sheds should not exceed 10 ohms; all gas stations and oil must ensure good equipotential connection, with a grounding resistance not exceeding 4 ohms; the distribution box should have a good lightning protection grounding wire, with the metal shield at both ends well grounded, and the grounding resistance value not exceeding 4 ohms; the resistance value of the oil pipeline should not exceed 30 ohms, and the resistance value of the static grounding clamp during unloading should not exceed 4 ohms.
3. Regularly check the static connection between the metal shielding wire on the fuel hose and the body. Due to frequent movement, the static connection between the shielding wire on the fuel hose and the body may break, leading to static electricity accidents. A gas station once experienced a gasoline tank explosion during refueling, which was found to be caused by a broken static grounding wire on the refueling. Therefore, operators should regularly check the integrity of the static grounding wire on the refueling hose.
4. It is strictly forbidden to directly pour gasoline into plastic barrels. Pouring gasoline directly into insulated plastic barrels can cause a large amount of static charge accumulation inside the barrel due to the insulation of the plastic. When the static voltage rises to the static discharge voltage, static discharge can ignite the oil vapor, causing a fire accident. The correct operation is to pour the oil into an iron barrel, then move the iron barrel to a safe area, and use a funnel to pour the oil into the plastic barrel. When pouring oil into the iron barrel, make sure the mouth touches the bottom of the barrel, avoid splashing pouring, and control the flow rate to not exceed 1 meter/second.
5. It is strictly forbidden to directly pour gasoline into motorcycle fuel tanks or car carburetors. Do not pour gasoline directly into motorcycle fuel tanks because: most motorcycle fuel tanks are made of plastic, equivalent to pouring oil into a plastic barrel; and the motorcycle engine is located below the fuel tank, and the temperature is relatively high just after turning off the engine, with the risk of igniting if oil drips. Pouring gasoline directly into car carburetors can easily cause backfire and ignite the oil outside the engine.
6. Operators should wear anti-static work clothes to eliminate human body static electricity.
